I’ve had more than a few people ask me where and how we are finding so many BABY’S EARS. So I’ve got a Quick Tip……a Q-Tip. teehee
Most of the time, they are upside down. So look for this shape….
Appropriately named, huh?
Here’s a few pictures to show you why they blend in to easily. Be patient, you’ll get the eye.
Of course, they might be “head’s up” too, so look for this as well.
We’ve had most of our luck on the east end of Sanibel at the Lighthouse and on the east end Cayo Costa
Pam, your Q-tip is an excellent one. In addition, your pictures illustrate your Q-tip” quite well. On Sanibel/Captiva there are so many people walking the beaches. They look, but they often just do not see. Developing an “eye” for wentletraps, baby’s ears or any other shell is just another way of saying that a person learns to look for a particular pattern on the beach that is characteristic of the specific shell and helps them to identify that image from all the other background shells and shell fragments. Kinda like looking for Waldo. It’s fun. Thanks for sharing, MK
Thanks, MK. I often think how shelling reminds me to look beyond the obvious- not just looking for shells but in every day situations too.
Well NOW you tell us the secret to finding the baby ears! I left Sanibel today with only one! I had 2 but dropped one and couldn’t find it again. However I did come home with about 10 wentletraps thanks to your tips. I’ll be back in July so hope that I might still have a chance at finding a few of these. Also while chatting with some other shellers they asked if I knew about your blog. You are famous with the shellers on the beach! Thanks for the photos of the baby ears too. I have to re-adjust my vision for these little guys.
Woops. Sorry Linda, I just missed you about the baby’s ears :) but now you can enjoy your wentles for a while and have something to look forward to in July …. WOW! I’m so tickled that you ran into someone else and talked about my blog….but famous??? (i’m turning very red now) teehee (blush, blush). I love shellers!
