We woke up to 45 degrees on Sanibel Island this morning after strong northwest winds all day yesterday. So I threw on my hoodie sweatshirt and hit the beach to see what Mother Nature had in store for us today. Yippee! Seashells!
I took a video to show you Blind Pass Captiva late yesterday afternoon at high tide when the wind was whipping and the Gulf Of Mexico was churning. I didn’t even want to get near the pass side of jetty rocks since the waves were breaking so hard and wind was so strong but there was one brave wind surfer having a blast. Flash forward to this morning… I took another video at Blind Pass Captiva (on the pass side of the jetty rocks) this morning at low tide as the wind calmed and the waves were not as choppy…. and the seashells arrived! What a difference! Check out the video then I’ll post more photos of some of the treasures hopefully tomorrow…
Woowee! Nice flat scallop! I felt like I was there with you watching that video. Thanks, Pam! Counting the days…
Oh yea…shelling on Sanibel is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re going to find, right? LOL
Love the video! It warms up my cold work day in St. Louis!!!
Really enjoyed your video! Just moved to Estero from Ohio to escape the cold. What a surprise this morning…but kind of nice! :)
Wish we could pick up shells like that here. But I don’t like the cold fronts coming through.
Aawwwe maaaan!!! Wouldn’t ya know it… it’s BEFORE and AFTER we visit the island that good shells are abundant. We went from last Friday till Monday and hardly found any good ones.
Gonna have to hit one of my beaches tomorrow morning to see how we look up here in Pinellas county.
At least while we were there I did manage to find a 2 inch (very orange) horsie candy… a really nice little Florida cone… and the most gorgeous burnt red 1.5 inch tulip. That was about it for this year’s trip…
At least we have you to keep us virtual shelling… Thanks for that Pam!
:)
Great post Pam! What pretties you found! That’ a really nice bittersweet, bigger than some you find! And the flat is a nice addition to your collection of flats, a strongly colored one.
Greetings from Pass-a-Grille! As a recent college grad I have found relaxation and excitement in shelling! Your website has not only helped me in identifying those hard to figure out minis, but is a joy to visit to see what other avid shellers are discovering! Recently, my most prized find has been a scotch bonnet and junonia. Hopefully I can adventure south to Sanibel soon for more adventures and shelling! Thank you for such an amazing site!
Getting excited to do some shelling the end of March..I see your bracelet is still on..Packing my bags very soon….
Its great to have the videos you do to see “find” shells with you!
It cracks me up and you know your a die hard sheller when we go out shell hunting when its 45 degrees, hoodie, flip flops and and in the water!! Lol…Right up my alley! Lol
Super nice bittersweet and flat shells! Sweet!!
Still going through, organizing and cleaning all my shells from the SHELLABALOO week!! We shall be back in August!!
I just love your page! Thank you!
Great day shelling and it was a pleasure meeting Pam at Blind Pass. My daughter Katie absolutely loved seeing Pam!
LOVE to come home and find a post from you, Pam!!! What beauties and to hear the sound of the waves is music! I found a flat like that when I was there last September….one of my favorites. Just booked our vacation for this year…September again. Great prices and I like the quiet time of year. I will enjoy Sanibel through you until then. Thank you so much for the joy you bring me…and to so many others.
WOW oh WOW!!! I just wanted to grab into the computer screen and grab some shells! LOL! I wish I was there! I like when it is warm though. Being on the Space Coast, our beaches don’t get the pretty shells as you all do over in Sanibel. I love this website, look at it often when there is a post and dream that I was there! Hopefully next summer! Sanibel is my favorite beach! Just want to move there! Maybe when I retire!
Sooo much fun, I could watch that video over and over!! I suppose your next post will reveal if you were able to track down the alphie that you thought you saw at the end of the video….can’t wait to hear all about it!!
What is Shellabaloo Week?
I will be there tomorrow. With any luck we will take a shelling trip. Will your husband be available in the next 3 weeks to take my sister and I around?
We have been avid shellers since 1984—our first trip to Sanibel heaven!
Awesomeness!
I bought my airline tickets on Thursday & booked the cottage. We will be there April 7th & I can’t wait. It’s the only thing that gets me through the cold, miserable winter in Ohio! Knowing that April always holds a wonderful vacation in paradise. I also received my I Love Shelling tshirt this week! :-)
Yay, you are all set Diane! How nice for you!
And after your vacation, spring will be underway in Ohio so it won’t be so daunting being back there.
Loved the video and I loved the flat you found!! My husband and I made our first trip to Sanibel a few weeks ago. We found some beautiful shells and I’m already planning my next trip! Thank you for the time you put into your blog. Seeing the pictures and videos you post is the next best thing when you are twelve hours away. Happy Shelling! :)
Even when I have to go back and watch it again, I get my daily “fix” from your pixs and videos…LOVE the flat scallop – wow. Just hearing the waves gives me courage for the day. It’s really cold here (TN) and has rained for a week, finally giving us sun now. I’m SOOOOO ready for my Sanibel home and some warm sand (or even cool sand!) Just 7 more weeks (and cataract surgery X 2!!!) Kiss a shell for me, Pam! JL
We used to have a house on Clam Bayou and I miss shelling so much. This site is wonderful……gives me my shell “fix”. Thank you for posting!
