Shellelujah! The shells are back. This is just a sampling of shells I found yesterday afternoon at Blind Pass Captiva as we witnessed the power of Mother Nature as she built a massive shell pile at the jetty rocks.
This is the photo I posted May 13 of this same area that was wiped clean of shells showing the devastation from erasion. As fast as she can take the beach and shells, she can bring it back. It’s fascinating to watch it happen!
These are the days we wait for…
With each wave, thousands of shells wash to the shore.
Although I have so many more photos to show but have no time to download them, I wanted to give you an update on the shelling conditions in Southwest Florida. As this was happening on Captiva and some of the beaches Sanibel yesterday, I’ve gotten word from Kaybe that similar conditions are happening to the north at Indian Rocks Beach… so if you are near a beach in SW Florida, you might try a little beach combing this weekend. You might find a treasure or two to add to your bag of memories.
If you aren’t near SW Florida, I’ve got some shelling for you too! Click on the next photo to enlarge it for a little CYBERSHELLING of your own. Enjoy!
Thanks Pam! Got my shelling “fix” for the day :-)
Amazing amounts just in the photo you shared! Thank you from WI…where summer and beaches is still very far away. Enjoy for all of us.
It was such a delight to meet you yesterday. And to see some faces to names that are regulars on the shelling groups. Thanks for letting people know where to look for shells :) People really appreciate all you do – keep up the great work and love your blog as always.
I had SUCH a great time yesterday! It was a thrill to finally meet you, Pam, and you, too, Cindy! Love seeing myself doing the stoop in these photos. Such fantastic memories. :D
All these shells! Makes a heart sing!
What a gorgeous selection of shells in that first photo!
I am loving those big bittersweets and that ?helmet ? shell! Spectacular finds. I am so envious!
Wow, wow, wow! It’s continually amazing me how the landscape of the beach changes…and the seeminly unlimited amount of shells that just get washed up on the beach…Mother Nature’s offerings to us. I can only imagine what the ocean floor must look like if all these shells washing ashore are empty. Really fodder for the imagination. Thank you, Pam for sharing this bounty with us. I love to be able to “cybershell” with y’all. My palms get itchy just looking at the pics. lol Love and Happy Shelling!
As soon as I saw your post I went into high gear to get out there on the pile. I even got an alert from California to make sure I went to the right beach today. Anna might not be with me, but she’s with me in spirit, making sure I get the best shells. I was not disappointed. So many beautiful shells waiting to be uncovered. Thanks so much for keeping “shelling addicts” like me heading in the right direction. It was fun shelling with you and Clark, the Super Sheller, today.
Pam what is that shell between the tulip, cone, whelk and olive? It does look like it has teeth, ha ha Beautiful shells, hope they continue for the entire summer!
It’s part of a queen helmet! I found so many pieces out there which is unusual. It’s more of a Caribbean shell so it’s always fun to even find the pieces of them here. :)
Thank you for the update and great pictures. Enjoyed the cyber shelling as always. This is so super exciting! In less than 48 hours we will be there for real!!! I can almost hear the ocean and feel the sea breeze!!!
You kill me Pam – slow, painful death ;-)
So sad Mother Nature decided not to deliver
during my trip there … One day …
OK,
I admit it.
I’m seriously shellous !!
And that one sure is going in my SHELLCABULARY LIST :)
Shellotte
That helmet piece is an extra thrilling find!!
Look at that helmet in there!!!!!!! So, so envious! Pam another goodie is on the way! Biggest Hugs, kj :)
Thx Pam, looks like plenty of double kitten paws!! Luv it
Keep shelling everyone,

Hey Pam,
Where are you hanging the next few days? We are here and would love to meet you before Thursdays tour!
On the Sanibel side of Blind Pass Sunday evening near sunset, there was almost nothing on the beach near the parking, so we scurried back to West Gulf. Beautiful sunset and lots of little shells on the beach. I sat down and ran my hands through the shells … did a Sanibel Sit instead of the Stoop! Whether I come away with some “real finds” or just what I call “little treasures of the day”, I’m in awe.
Just returned from our first trip to Sanibel, but it won’t be our last. It was amazing, came home with tons of shells. It was fantastic to see all the live sea creatures on the beach at low tide at night. Literally spent hours looking at the star fish, live shells, sand dollars that were just everywhere. Had some luck shelling in the water at Blind Pass Sanibel side, but not so much luck on Cayo Costa although we did find a mermaids purse and an angel wing. My favorite was all the baby shells that we found last Friday, our last night. The dolphins were also a favorite.
Wow! Great time to be on Sanibel. I hope the erosion reversed with the influx of shells.
