It’s the ebb and flow of shelling that keeps me going to the beach over and over again. I always see something different with every tide… like the orange sun setting over an orange COCKLE or this brilliant purple opening of this APPLE MUREX.
At any given moment, the tide may bring DOLPHINS in so close to the shore they may swim right next to a sheller (like this week!).
In the next minute, the tide may recede to reveal fresh beautiful shell treasures left on the sand.
These are a few shell souvenirs Amanda and J.J (from St Mary’s Island, Georgia) found at Blind Pass…. ALPHABET CONES.
It was also lovely to meet Carol (TN) under the Blind Pass bridge while we scooped up a few shells in the current as the tide was coming back in.
I’m so sorry I haven’t been making more videos lately, but …. to make it up to you… here’s a short video I filmed just moments before I met Carol. I love days when I catch the tide just right as the water is shallow and calm enough to see the shells roll by in the current. So take a break from your ebb and flow of your own world and come cybershelling with me for a just a minute. I think you’ll see that change is a beautiful thing.
What a fun post and the video is lovely. I try to catch a video of yours and transport myself to Sanibel with my morning coffee every day. We just booked a condo for April 2017. A long wait but it will to help get thru the MN winter. I keep reading that the best shelling is December thru March. How do the other months that aren’t classified as “the best months” compare? We booked in April because the prices are better and because the ocean should be warm enough to swim in. We were there this January 2016 -it was a bit chilly and stormy (tornados even!).
Thank you Pam for another wonderful escape into the beauty and excitement of shelling on Sanibel!
Beautiful… thanks Pam.
Nice to see the smiling sheller faces and the beautiful video. If I saw a video of someone’s hand rinsing off shells in the water I would know if it was you because you always give them the same “shake” – lol. Thank you, Pam, for your cheerful, fun blogs. They always make me smile.
Thanks for the cybershelling video–next best thing to being there and shelling in person!
Hi Pam *waving*! It’s Irma and Joyce here from BC, Canada. We met last November on the shelling cruise (Joyce found a bunch of purplish tagelus shells). Thinking about Sanibel almost every day… we certainly did not just leave our footsteps in the sand but a piece of our hearts as well. Hoping to return one day… In the mean time, we very much enjoy the video’s, it’s like we’re shelling right there with you. So much fun! And what beautiful treasures you found in just a few short minutes! So glad I bought your large conch shellography… brings back wonderful memories of the time with my daughter on Sanibel! All the best to you and keep ‘m coming!! :)
Pam Videos are coming thru AWESOME !!!! THANK YOU so much for sharing !!! If we can not be there the best thing is experiencing all of this through you and your treasure hunt videos !!! You are AMAZING and we so much appreciate you sharing with all of us who love nature like you do !!! Keep up the good work !!!
Thank you, Pam. I loved it!
I drove over to Lighthouse Point and Gulfside beaches on Sanibel yesterday from Naples.. Found a few shells and a lot of people at Lighthouse… Thanks for sharing your shelling finds with us.
Thank you! Sanibel is my favorite place on earth! I went to blind pass only once and found nothing! I recently found out I need to cross to the other side of the bridge!
Beautiful . But I wanted to turn the music off and just listen to the water……sorry .
I agree prefer just the sound of beach hoping for good shelling to marrow patti
Hi Jill! I am not an expert on Sanibel shelling like dear Pam Rambo, but I’ve been to Sanibel 4 times in about 20 years. My husband and I always go after motel rates go down, too! We have been in May, July & September. We found the shelling to be wonderful!! You may not have the advantage of having the tides and weather on your side during your stay, but that is true anytime! There does tend to be more shells rolling up in the winter because of winter storms. But if you go back through Pam’s I Love Shelling posts throughout the years, you will see that good shelling can happen anytime! Study the posts and learn about how the weather and tides work together to bring our treasures in. Then you may find a morning on one day is better, and an afternoon is better on another.
Have a wonderful time, Jill! We hope to go next Spring. It will have been 7 years since our last trip to Sanibel. Hoping & praying we can go!!
What a wonderful way to enjoy a mini-adventure with you!! I hope to someday be able to join you on a shelling cruise, but in the meantime I thoroughly enjoy your posts and videos. Thank you for all you share.
Silvia
Lovely! We came to lay eyes on the beauty of Sanibel and our kindred friend doing what she enjoys most. Elicited wonderful memories…bless you this day! ~Nicole and Sophie
Pam,
I’ve been looking at your vacation posts from Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas. I emailed Joe-T and Joe-L about a the possibility of a shelling adventure when our ship docks in Freeport. Is this the best way to find shells? I saw that you and Clark mostly ventured in the North Caicos and Middle Caicos. Did you have any luck finding shells in the Grand Caicos? Were the beaches of the Grand Bahamian islands scarce shell wise until you contacted Joe-T? I loved your photos and I’ve been taking notes and screenshots of the maps you provided from Turks and Caicos! (Super great idea, thank you for that by the way) Were the shells on Turks and Caicos “easier” and more abundant closer to shore than the shells you found in the Bahamas? I would really appreciate any information that you can provide me with! Your world shelling posts are so helpful!
Awww……so relaxing! I just loved this video. I love all your cyber shelling videos, but this one has to be one of your better ones. Why?? I’m glad you asked! The calm, clear water…the shells just sitting there, waiting for you, the beautiful music and…..drumroll, please….NO WIND IN THE MICROPHONE! LOL….I know, into each life a little wind must blow! But all joking aside, I could hear the relaxing sound of the water and this made me feel like I was back on Sanibel again!
Thank you so much for sharing a small part of your world. It’s truly loved by many! I feel so special, like you actually read my post asking you to share more cyber shelling videos! Aww shucks…..thanks Pam!
Oh my goodness, the video takes you right back there. We spent a lot of hours on Blind Pass. It makes us want to visit right now!
So much enjoy your posts as well as videos! Our next trip to Sanibel is Aoril 23 to May 8th….any possibility there may be a Shelling trip during those dates?
Happy New Year, Pam!
