The best time to find lots of shells on the beaches of southwest Florida is after a storm coming from the Gulf Of Mexico – which is exactly what happened last weekend when Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hermine came through.
We never know exactly when or where the shells will start washing in after the storm leaves town but theres nothing more fun than hunting for them high and low. This is also the time to meet lots of other fun-loving shellers on the hunt for those amazing treasures that roll up on our beaches.
… And in the water when it calms.
… And anywhere in between.
ErrrrrΒ but wait. There may be something more fun than searching for them… Finding them.
Boom Shellalaka!
Shellzam!
Truly Spectacsheller!
This type of excitment is exactly what happened at the Sanibel Lighthouse Beach by the fishing pier last weekend. It’s what we shellers wait for and dream about!
Earlier this week the seas calmed from the storm and the shells weren’t as easy to find so Clark and I headed south to Second Chance Island off Β Marco to explore the outer islands by boat.
OMG Super Sheller Clark hit the shellmongus jackpot… 2 gorgeous HORSE CONCHS! Thank you Tropical Storm Hermine for stirring up the Gulf Of Mexico just a tad without doing any damage to anything or anyone. You left such beautiful gifts of the sea for us.
Love those red tulips!
oh to be there after a storm…………….heaven!!!
I don’t believe Clark fiund thise out there. I would gave to go with you & see for myself ππ
Oh my gosh, my mouth is watering. Thanks for the post…..I think ;)
I am so excited for my trip next month, Pam I have been to Sanibel so many times and have yet to run into you..I will look harder this time around or maybe plan a day trip…
Be safe & Happy shelling!!!
So wish I was there! Your photo of Clark’s shells is the lock screen on my phone now. Can’t wait for our next trip to Sanibel
I want to be in Florida. RIght now!!!!! A M A Z I N G shells.
OH, WOW!!! These shells are amazing. The colors are so vibrant. Love that last photo.
Those are such amazing finds – sadly we had nothing but a bit of sea weed wash up over here on the east coast near Jacksonville.
You are so lucky to be there now! Wish I could be there too! Have big fun πIng!
Not so lucky in Tampa Bay Area. Just a lot of sand, even in my favorite shelling areas! No shells at all!π’
Absolutely beautiful!
We will be there next weekend for our anniversary. I have lived on the east coast of FL just about all my life and have always wanted to go to Sanibel. This is my gift from my husband. Save some shells for us!! β‘
Wow! Lots of great horse conchs this week.
This is the post I’ve been waiting for since we left Sanibel last weekend. We were able to catch some of the action on great shelling while there, but knew the best was yet to come!
I’m hoping the loggerhead turtle nest were not too devastated due to the tropical storm turned hurricane. We were blessed two days in a row to be a part of a group to witness babies heading into the ocean before the ocean became a threat to the remaining nests.
Pam…is there an update on probabilities of survival of any of the remaining nest?
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I wish I knew when “the calm after the storm” was going to be!!
We just happened to be at the right place at the right time when all these beauties came rolling in! Hermine was good to us. Sitting in the water at the base of the lighthouse Friday night pulling out keeper after keeper will certainly be memories we will never forget. Thank you, Pam, for posting our shells and for making my day π Hope to see you the next time we visit the Sanibel Lighthouse!! ππ
Pam, we are arriving Saturday, 5th. I booked your shelling cruise on the 11th before I made flight or condo reservations… lol This will be my second cruise with you in 18 months. You are so so much fun!
I see Tropical Storm Emily is there now. How long after a storm lands do the shells come in? I guess hoping for them to still be rolling in this Saturday is a long shot?????
Thank you for your answer. Cannot wait for the cruise with you again.
Best always,
Sandi and Bill Hill
