There aren’t many shells on mid-Captiva. The huge shell mound at Blind Pass is gone. West Gulf had a few clam and scallop shells and that’s about it. I made it to the east end on Sanibel (the lighthouse) to find …well, not much. The good news is that I didn’t feel Red Tide symptoms of scratchy throat and lungs or sneezing but I did see a few dead fish on the beach…only a few.
The one bright part of the day was Crissy from London at the lighthouse. She was happy finding a few COCKLES, SCALLOPS and CLAMS. This was her first time to Sanibel but not the last….because of our shells. She travels around the world to find different shells that she uses to make jewelry. I asked her to send us an update on her shelling trip to Australia in a few months and send pictures of her finds. I hope she does!
If you have any photos of you and your shells, send them to me and I’ll post them.
