It rained all day long today so we didn’t get to the beach at all. I did get to hang out on the couch (yeah!) and catch some surf on the web. Check out this VERY interesting article from our local newspaper about the police investigating a guy taking live shells from a Sanibel beach. Click on News-Press.com
He said he missed ALL of the signs on every beach that say TAKING LIVE SHELLS IS PROHIBITED or DO NOT TAKE LIVE SHELLS. After reading about the mother of four, I started to understand a little bit more so I’m so happy neither of them got put in the slammer……for a year! Could you imagine?……but those poor shells.
PS- The winds are still coming from the east and don’t change until wednesday but with this crazy weather today, I’m going to check out the lighthouse tomorrow to see what’s there.
Thanks for the link..60 live shells!!!..I guess you never really know if someone is telling the truth but I’m sure he won’t do it again..I feel bad for the live shells..
It’s great that someone reported him and that the police took the report seriously and showed up. My thought is that other shellers around him at the time probably did tell him about the live shelling law but he just ignored them; I’ve experienced that myself in the past when I’ve seen someone pick up a live shell and put it in their pail. I feel very strongly about that issue. I think he should have been at least fined.
