I’ve talked about those crazy DOLPHINS at the lighthouse beach on Sanibel but I finally got some good video of them speeding through the water to catch their meal of tiny fish (ok, I’m assuming “tiny fish” since the water wasn’t as clear as it was last week). At first they looked like sharks with only their dorsal fin showing above water but no doubt, they are dolphins. You’ll see how close they got to Rob visiting from New Hampshire. He got great pictures of his family just several feet from a dolphin. We were out there filming this about 7pm last night at a very low tide and full moon.
This is a thank you for my friend Lisa who is ccrrraaazy about dolphins…..she just signed up to subscribe to my posts through an email reminder . If you also want to have an email sent to you when I put up a new post, click on the link on the top right of this page.
Great footage! We encountered these 2 dolphins daily during our April stay. They came so close but I didn’t get any pixs of them. One evening I was standing on the beach watching them do this when all of a sudden one of them turned and made a beeline into shore just about landing at my feet. It actually startled me and then I thought no one will ever believe me……why didn’t I have my camera. I’ve never seen anything like this before but it was very cool!
Just beautiful to capture the dolphins so close!
That is so cool to watch, thank you. They are so fun to watch no matter what they do.
Hi Pam, I’m finally back to blogging after the move and had to stop by and see what my shell sister has been up to. I can only say, you didn’t disappoint me at all! I love all the videos and pics you’ve been posting. The conch shell you found is amazing! I never see them that size any more. I have a few around the house, but they are from years and years ago.
I also appreciate the article you posted on collecting live shells, educating the public is an ongoing process and every voice helps.
Nice to be back with my friends, expect to see a lot of me now that life is finally returning to normal.
Welcome back, Rhonda!
Hi Pam!
Thx for stopping by, I thought I’d return the visit!
Great video! Although with the title of the post I was half expecting something of a more “violent” nature… (I had a professor who used to insist on how violent bottlenose dolphins could be, and that their victims were the “poor” harbour porpoises in Scotland…). You must have been able to get real close (or you’ve got a good zoom) for such great shots of their fishing activities!
I haven’t seen dolphins in a looong time, this has made me nostalgic!
Glad you liked my seal photo and dogfish video! :)
Oh, oh…., are the dolphins territorial. Sure looks like it. I’m glad that there was no blood.
Wow! Was this near the pier? They are truly amazing. Looked liked there were a couple of them either “playing” or chasing each other. At one point in the background in the distance you could see a couple more zooming around. It’s not mating season is it?
Thanks, Pam for posting your great videos. Love the music too. Care to share what the music is?
Wild, huh? This was on the other side by the lighthouse….almost in front of the parking lot on the gulf side. I used the tunes that came with my mac….i think it was under jingles.
Oh…one more question…the tide looked like it was really way out. Does the tide recede more at certain times of the year? Or during a full moon? Looked like it was great fun. Hope you found some great shells!
It’s always a really low tide on a full moon. I try not to miss the shelling when it’s that low.
Wow that is sooo cool! Dolphins are a favorite of mine!!! Thanks for the live video of them!!
Great video! Thanks Pam….and so close!! WOW!
Just wanted to say what a fantastic website you have – wish I had known about it before our trip. The time with the dolphins at the lighthouse will forever be one of my fondest vacation memories. Thanks for posting it!!!

Hi Pam,
I was in Sanibel with my young children, the week this video was shot, and these dolphins brought back those memories… I saw them doing that high speed chase on that same day.
Love your blog. I feel connected to the island until I get back there late this spring.
