Some days, even if the shelling isn’t fantastic, are still good beach days…..like today. I had a shelling “date” with my friend Celeste since we both seem to always miss each other with our busy lives. She makes fun, colorful pottery which includes her oh-so-fun mushrooms, flowers and critters. Check her website out- http://www.etsy.com/shop/thebohemianmushroom You’ll see why she’s so busy! Here are a few pieces.
So we stuck to our beach plan today and went to Blind Pass for our first stop. We only saw lots of bleached out clams and scallops so we hopped back in the car and headed for West Gulf Drive after lunch. West Gulf Drive had some better shell lines with a few LIGHTNING WHELKS, an OLIVE, and CONCHS so we were very happy that we found some keepers. We hit lots of other spots on Sanibel but our treasures (and only a few) were from West Gulf Drive area. We might not have found tons of shells to bring home with us but it was a wonderful day to spend time with a friend.
Oh that water looks so lovely! Those mushrooms so cute.
Summer has come! the sun was hot, but the water felt wonderful on my legs.
This must be what heaven is like….looking out on the gulf, everything just melts away..
Pam took me out for vacation day, we scouted some of her regular stops and she educated a novice (me) on some of the finer and basic points on shelling.
Pam picked up a huge whelk casing. She explained how a little shell comes out of every cell….there must have been over a thousand shells from this casing.
A lot of work for such a little creature, i really was amazed!
Thanks for a great day Pam!
Ooh…love that first image!!! So beachy!
Those shell creations are pretty cute too:)
I went to the web site http://www.etsy.com/shop/thebohemianmushroom, is that the only place we can purchase Celeste’s beautiful creations? I will be in Sanibel this month. I have truly enjoyed your site. Did I miss the answer to what camera you are using for the awesome photographs?
She has another website that you can reach her through… http://thebohemianmushroom.com/ She also has some her creations at Island Styles in Periwinkle Place. If she has them in other retail outlets, I’ll let you know. My camera is a Panasonic Lumix – just a pocket camera. I love it! I can stick it in my pocket and take it any where. I just go this one last month because my other canon sure shot got wet (surprised?) and had a big spot on every picture.
oh the gulf looks soo pretty. So did you get any good shells that day?
