Look at those shells! I heard that the shells were building up again yesterday on Captiva at Blind Pass but I missed the chance to get down there….but I didn’t miss it today. The shells really started to come in around 6 pm today. MUREXES, WHELKS, OLIVES, CONCHS and lots of bright SCALLOPS were being washed on the shore with each wave.
Patrick and Anna come to Sanibel to “decompress” each year . They stock up on shells to take back to their nieces and nephews so they hit the right spot today. Patrick found this adorable teeny, tiny FLAT SCALLOP but I think he’ll end up keeping that one for himself.
Clark and I found a handful of our type of keepers….. colorful minis. Look at that yellow SCALLOP!
Guess who we ran into again? Â Richard and Anne France from my Sea Turtle Nesting post on June 6. They were the ones that watched the mamma turtle lay her eggs. They told me that they were there at Blind Pass yesterday when the high tide was bringing in really nice TULIPS and lots of larger shells. They came back today and had great luck again. Anne France even found a LIGHTNING WHELK around 6 inches big. I know where I’ll be tomorrow too- Blind Pass.
Wow that little flat scallop is so pretty!!! i love flat scallops. Oh and that pretty little yellow scallop is so cute!
Ahhhh, we must have arrived soon after you took this photo. We met these folks shelling. We stopped by after having dinner at the Mucky Duck to see if we could find any shells. We were shocked at the pile of shells, we had just been there on Sunday an it was large…but not this LARGE. We found some great shells too, and a spidery looking small star fish (that was dead so we got to keep him).
The minis are so colorful. I guess as a newbie I tended to ignore the small stuff for the bigger shells. Now I know. You all are so lucky! Sure wish I could be there. I love to check my email for the postings, Pam. It makes me feel like I’m there, almost. I check out the webcams on your site a couple of times a week. It’s almost like being there…NOT! Tick, tick…December 25th can’t come soon enough for me! It’s what’s keepin’ me going these days, looking forward to shelling and exploring more of the island! Who knows once retirement comes Rick and I will spend a few months of winter there! Yes, I’ll manifest that dream NOW!
By the way, any word about the oil spill impacting Sanibel?
December 25 is right around the corner! I posted One Picture, a Million Words especially for you today.
