What the heck??? I was taking video of our pleasant little morning at low tide shelling the east end of Sanibel finding a SUNRAY VENUS, COCKLE SHELLS, a live LIGHTNING WHELK, and some hermit crabs in MUREX shells …then…. Clark finds a BRISTLE WORM in his new shelling rake (Sea Shell Sifter). Weird stuff, Dude, but a little on the cool side too. Take a look…
On the way on our “pleasant little morning” we met Brian and Mary from Weston, Florida who come to Sanibel for very big occasions. They got engaged 2 years ago on Sanibel then got married on Sanibel 3 months later.
I can’t get the video to play and now I’m more than curious! :)
I’m getting an error that says the video is private and I must accept a friend request to view it. I’m curious too!
I get the same message :o( I would like to see what a Bristle Worm is.
same here
me too@
Woooops! I’m not sure why that happened! I hope I fixed it ….. maybe YouTube is afraid of bristle worms.
Does Clark like the new shovel better that the metal one?
The new shovel replaced my smaller nets scoops. I have found it more conveinent to carry and is much better for the smaller shells. Since the new shovel is smaller I will still use my “Backhoe” when there are a lot of shells commig and the water is cloudy. As you all know, I take my shelling shovels seriously so I need both, I will also be able to carry the new one on out of town trips.
Looks like free bait to me!
Eeeew…he can stay in the water, far, far away from me! They won’t latch on to you will they? Pretty weird, but cool at the same time.
i never heard of them…..got info?!
Hi Judie,
I have highlighted and bolded the words that have links to them. So just click on BRISTLE WORM (just like I did there) and it will take you to more info on bristle worms. Pretty cool, huh?
Pam,
It was nice meeting you and Clark Sunday. We hope to run into you all again during our next trip to Sanibel. We’ll definitely be there in January to celebrate our anniversary. But we’re also planning another weekend getaway in November! Happy shelling!
M&B
PS. Interesting worm
Eeeew!! is right that worm looks creepy!! But, the new shell scooper looks interesting. Do they have them here on the island?
Good meeting you today :)
The worm was interesting! I loved Clark’s new shell scoop, where can we get one? I would love to have one for our next trip to Sanibel!
Me too Me too I want that cool lightweight shell/sharks tooth scoop too.
We’ve always had saltwater tanks in our home but a few yrs back someone gave us their 55 gal hex saltwater tank, there were like 50 of these worms living in the coral..creepy creepy things.
You can get the blue shell scoop that Clark is using from this website- http://www.seashellsifter.com . Christine- I think that bristle worm can sting you but …Hey Kimber, do you know since you had them in your tank? M&B and Lee- so nice to meet yall too!
I’ve never once seen one in the water on Sanibel and we always use nets and thankfully have never caught one. I gave the tank with the coral back, you have to be careful when buying live coral. On if they bite this site should help http://www.emedicinehealth.com/wilderness_bristleworm_sting/article_em.htm
Even knowing this my family still goes swimming in the ocean. I wouldn’t let this stop anyone.
