All along the Sanibel beaches from Tarpon Bay Road to the Lighthouse beach there are tons of PEN SHELLS, COCKLES, SEAWEED, HEART URCHINS, SEA URCHINS, SEA PORK, BRYOZOAN COLONIES and more PIG’S FEET.
This wrack line was near Gulf Side City Park.
The shelling was much better today on Sanibel at these beaches rather than the sand bar at Blind Pass on Captiva I’ve been raving about lately. Blind Pass seems to be getting picked over and the sand is building over the shells….. but then again, you can sit ‘n sift and probably still find some good stuff.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve had some issues with my photo downloads so I thought I lost lots of pictures….. but Apple genius Matt recovered my files. These next photos are the people I’ve met in the last couple of weeks that I didn’t get to post but I didn’t want to leave them out. Lost… but not forgotten.
Oh my goodness!! Was there anything “good” in that line of shells?
Lots of people out shelling it seems. Great photos as always. Hope to see you in the New Year…maybe in March if not sooner!!!
I am too excited! Leaving in a few hours.. I need to get me and my tired bones over there!
WOOHOO!!
Thank you so much for doing this blog. It’s the best blog I’ve come across in 2010. Even though I’m stuck on the east coast (of FL), it’s like being at Sanibel every day. I’m learning about how the beach and the shell supply change daily. Here’s to more great shelling and blogging in the coming year. Happy New Year!
I love seeing how the beaches change, the different shells and everything else that the ocean brings ashore. If I can’t see it in person the next thing is your blog, thank you again and may you and Clark have a safe and happy new year :)
