They don’t call Clark “Super Sheller” for nothin’. We took our boat to Cayo Costa for the Memorial Day weekend and since we haven’t been out there for a while, we headed in different directions to cover more ground…er… sand to find some shells. About 45 minutes later, Clark called me on my cell phone and said “Get ready for this one!”. Hmmmm. What did he find?
A 14″ (fourteen inches!) HORSE CONCH!!!!!
I got the shelling Rock Star on video…… (it might take a few seconds for the video to load, so hang on….it’s pretty cute)
Oh wow that is awesome! Cant wait till we get there in July..Congratulations!
Woo, Hoo! Awesome find, Clark! Happy Memorial Day!
That is awesome. I love Cayo Costa. I want to go back there again this summer. What a wonderful & serene spot…with great shelling too!! Looks like you had a great day!!!!
WOW! Beautiful find! Next year for SURE I am going to this island :) Good for you! Hope we can see it cleaned up later?!
Wow…..great shelling!
go Clark! Its youre birthday!! HEHE
OMG!! AMAZING! Please post a close up picture of this amazing shell once it’s cleaned up. I’d love to see more of it. :) Happy for you and Clark.
I know I could google this but I am lazy….where is Cayo Costa from Sanibel?
Cayo Costa is 2 islands north of Captiva. So you have Sanibel, then Captiva, then North Captiva (a separate island) then Cayo Costa. Take a look at these posts from Cayo Costa..

I started to post this response and then saw that Pam posted hers. Captiva Island is north of Sanibel, and North Captiva Island is just north of Captiva. Cayo Costa is just north of North Captiva Island and south of Boca Grande, which are at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor. Here is a map, http://www.maplandia.com/united-states/florida/lee-county/cayo-costa/ Although Sanibel Island usually receives far more shells than Cayo Costa, far fewer people walk the beaches of Cayo Costa, since access requires a boat ride. As such, one can often find some pretty nice shells there, as SuperSheller Clark did. Like Sanibel Island, the shelling there can be incredibly good or just mediocre, often changing from day to day. Often the water is clearer around Cayo Costa. As such, snorkeling can often be more productive there than around Sanibel. Going there usually involves spending a a day out on the water, which is a lot of fun with friends.
Wow, that’s a doozy! Love it!!!
Did yall see the video with this post? It is taking a few minutes to download for some reason. It’s cute! Clark is still beaming! We’ll get it cleaned up this week and show you what it will look like close up.
I tip my hat & bow before the King ( as in Kings Crown ) … way to go Clark !! You & Pam keep the fire burning with in my heart for our beloved Sanibel , keep up the great work !!
P.S. You might find this cute . Our new kitten I have named .. Meshell -My-A-Bel ! It’s a combination Of the Beatles song & my love for shells & Sani-bel !!

Wow!!!……so jealous :) Congrats to you! I cannot wait to go to Sanibel in November. My craving will not go away….wish i could go sooner. I think I will have to make a visit to Cayo Costa!
Nice Find Clark!!
Boy, he’s a keeper and the conch’s not too bad either. I love that you and Clark each go different ways, that’s what Richard and I do too. You cover more beach that way, not’s that shelling is a competition or IS IT.
Would you consider that conch the find of a lifetime or have you found others that size?
I wish I could get my husband into shelling — he’s usually very patient while I scour the beaches and gather my treasures but he won’t even pick up one. Says “dead things creep him out” or worse it might still be alive and slime him!
Although he did point out a flamingo’s tongue that I had overlooked when we were in the Bahamas! I guess I’ll keep my guy too!
holy smokes! that is my favorite shell ever!!! tell clark i said congrats because that beast is beautiful!!
Wow!! I can’t wait!! We already have a boat adventure planned for October. Unfortunately, I’m counting down from 131 days!!! Love that conch!!
I love it!! The big smile is a bonus!
At fist I thought you were going to say he found a Junonia……
Holy moly!
My favorite part of the video is the excitement in your voice!
WOW!!!! I have to go get a towel now to wipe the drool off my computer!
Wow, that’s a great shell! How deep in the water was it, and what did you see when you first glimpsed it, the whole thingy or just a bit? What part of Cayo Costa did you go to? Robin found a similarly huge conch there while snorkeling, many years ago. Just the very tip was exposed, she figured it was broken but kept digging away. Nearly drowned from excitement when she uncovered the whole thing. Good going, Clark!
Nice find! I would love to check out the little islands that dot the coastline. The next time the guys go fishing, I’m having them drop me off!
I guess I’m just always in the wrong place at the wrong time! Bummer!
You the man, Clark!!!!
Who’s the Man? Clark’s the Man!
You guys are so stinkin cute! My favorite shelling couple! I love how you guys can compete against each other yet still be so excited for each other too.
Compete…yes…. but I know this baby got to come home to me too. heehee
Wow, great find. Congratulations!!
Lee & Bill

Way to go Clark!!!! That is freaking huge..He is the “Super Sheller” it seems :)
The video uploaded very quickly for me,the sky looks so blue, the water so green and the weather so perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome Clark!! Someday I will find one of those!
Awesome! Can’t wait to see it all cleaned up.
Hi! We rent a boat from Jensens Marina on Captiva and go to Cayo Costa to shell. Where do you guys dock or anchor? And where are they good shelling spots?? Thanks so much. We will be down June 11-18
We anchor anywhere we can but it’s usually different locations depending on the water chop and wind direction. It’s usually easy to anchor on the south east tip of Cayo Costa. Sometimes we just cruise the shoreline and look for shell piles. Have fun!
That is usually where we anchor! And we have good luck down there. Thanks
yes, me and my family will be down there june 11-18 too! cayo costa is so beautiful! i find alot of purplish tagelus shells there.
We are staying on Captiva
Here’s a belated “Yay, Clark!” Great find. (I’m catching up on all the old iLoveshelling posts)
