I always love to see what other people do with the shells they find combing the beaches. Sharlene found these DOVE SHELLS on a beach near her home in Puerto Rico and she decided to make them into earrings. They look great…but then I think she could make SEA PORK look good too, right? She also made a simple but very cool necklace out of an AUGER. I might have to borrow your idea, Sharlene.
But then I’ve said that before, haven’t I? After seeing Kathy’s Junonia Necklace (my post last year) and other inspirations like Sharlene’s necklace, I’m reminded that I was going to make a great necklace too out of my shells but this is as far as I got. I bought waxed linen to thread some shells to hang from my fabulous necklace to be. It’s still sitting….. waiting…..
That’s okay. One day. But until then, I want to show you a few other finds from my weekend. There were a lot of live shells in the water around Middle Gulf Drive but there were a few good empty smaller shells like the ones Mark and Rene from Miami found…
This is a beautiful RIBBED CANTHARUS Mark found along with a BANDED TULIP, OLIVES, a NUTMEG and a CONCH.
Right after I ooooed at that orange CANTHARUS (I consider that “candy” too), I found a TINTED CANTHARUS…..
Since it was a full moon on Friday with negative low tides, I thought we’d have a little better shelling this weekend along the middle beaches of Sanibel. Maybe I should have gone to Blind Pass but we had rain and thunder on and off all weekend so the minute I hear thunder…. I know there’s lightning somewhere. Yikes! That’s when I stay off the beach!
I love shells, but Rene (in the photo with Mark) is a VERY nice addition to our beach!! Welcome home, Pam!
Pam, I just discovered your blog a few weeks ago and I love it! I particularly enjoy all your really excellent photos (especially the cyber shelling) and I wanted to say thank you for the work you put into the site. My husband and I will be coming to Sanibel for the very first time in November for about 9 days around full moon time, and we’re trying to decide whether to stay in Blue Dolphin Cottages on West Gulf Drive (right on the water) or Seahorse Cottages, which are in old town not far from Lighthouse Beach. Do you, or anyone else, have any opinions?
I’m not really familiar with Seahorse Cottages but I do love the east end near the lighthouse and it’s close to restaurants and shops. Blue Dolphin is right on the beach and some times the shelling is awesome on that beach since there arent as many people…. but then it’s not close to restaurants and shops. I’m sure either will be a wonderful experience.
Thanks so much for your input Pam!
He-llo. Talk about (eye) candy. And those shells aren’t bad either.
Ok. I’m serious now. Those earrings are great! I never would have thought to make jewelry out of my shells. Off to Hobby Lobby now!
As always Pam, you bless our days with your posts! I stop everything I am doing when ever I see a new post from your blog ! It’s as if you have the uncanny and delightful ability to transport us over there to your west Florida coast paradise and sanctuary… so we are strolling the beaches with you! THANK YOU!!! ..( and also Clark!!!)

I need to get down there to see what other “finds” are strolling I mean rolling up on Sanibel beaches. Love the idea of shell jewelry but it’d like that mailbox I’m gonna get around to making. We need some rainy days so I can do these projects.
Don’t worry you didnt miss anything at blind pass on friday! It was great earlier in the week but the current from the full moon made it hard to see in the water. We still found plenty of horse conchs and whelks but nothing good.
Love the tinted shell! Such a pretty little thing. Hope all is well with you. I have been totally out of the mix. Working way too hard. BUT – hoping to get some time off in August and I am coming over for some shelling!! :). Hope to see you. Take care…XOXO
Love Sharlene’s seashell jewelry, the Auger-Necklace looks so great on her… but Rene from Miami is a GEM ;-)
Hi Pam, I have it figured out!! Someone is planting those Junonias for Clark and just happens to find them when you are along. LOL I too want to make jewelry with my finds from Sanibel and have looked on the internet to get ideas and have very little luck. I love the necklace and will have to also steal the idea. The waxed linen that you showed, is that what you would use for the necklace?
Looking forward to seeing you this winter, one of your shellin’ sistas from Tennessee
I am so envious!!!!!! I have to start planning my next trip down!!!! And hey, Pam! I’ll make you some shell jewelry – my girl Jill and I are starting a jewelry business, with vintage buttons…. I bet we can put something together for you…
Oh Pam the shells I sent you look so perfect sitting there! I could pick them out anywhere… I’m so glad you liked my little ‘flotsam’ collection. Prux
Hi, I love your blog! I just adore Sanibel Island and cannot wait to come backin a few days! My friend, her two daughters (8 and 9) and myself are coming this Tuesday, the ninth through the sixteenth! We are so excited! It will be their first time on Sanibel. Can you tell me where along West Gulf Drive you were shelling when all those beautiful cones were found? I have been on your website every day! I just love it. Lovely pictures! Hope I find a junonia one of these days! :) Sherri from MN
Hi Sherri! She found them walking both ways from beach accesses #6 and #7 . Click on the map on this page and it will show you where they are. Good luck!!!!
