Well, how do you like that? I know yet another thrilled beach comber coveting another JUNONIA prize this week…and you know her too! I just introduced her to you as the Sanibel Seeker in my last post- Shelling Sister Carla Knotts! She found it on the beach half way covered by a COCKLE shell near Blue Dolphin Cottages off West Gulf Drive. She said it wasn’t in the water and it wasn’t near the wrack line, it was in between on a sand bar that was showing at low tide. If you look at the seventh picture down on my last post Cone Queen, Sanibel Seeker and Golfer Of The Sea, you’ll see that area I’m talking about… it’s on the right hand side of the photo.
I am so tickled for her. When I met her on the beach the other day, her eyes almost swelled up with tears with joy after telling me what Sanibel means to her. The moment she starts to drive over that causeway to see the island, she tried to explain the emotion that comes over her. It was meant to be that she found her special treasure. As I told Carla congratulations, she smiled at me and pointed to the sky and said “Yep. Thanks to my mom!”
Congratulations Carla!!!
Yay! Amazing find Carla! :)
Oh my oh my wow shellabrate wooooo whoooooo to Carla
Tears of joy coming over the causeway heading onto Sanibel ; tears of sadness leaving the beautiful Island- happens every time! :)
I cry every time I leave as well. Every time. There is something about that island that speaks to my soul!
can understand that… such a beautiful gift to all that can experience it!
Alot of Junonia have been found…is this normal? They are deep sea seashells right?
FROM WIKIPEDIA – This species (Scaphella junonia) lives in deep water in the tropical Western Atlantic. Because of its deepwater habitat, the shell is usually only found washed up onto beaches after strong thunderstorms, or hurricanes.
Seems like JULY 2011 is Junonia Month on Sanibel! LOL. Trish
Way to go, Carla! I’m so happy for you! :)
That’s such a nice story! Congrats on the great find Carla!
Blue Dolphin is where I found my awesome WHOLE Lion’s Paw.
Congrats on the find!
who knew a little shelling blog could make me tear up so much??? Your stories have been so moving lately Carla! Just beautiful! You are so blessed to meet all these wonderful people & be able to hear all their wonderful stories! Thank you for always sharing them!
Lovely find. I so can’t wait to be there. A little less than 3 weeks and I will be in paradise. Congratulations on the gift you found. Cannot wait to try my hand and enjoy one of the most wonderful places on earth.
What a beautiful shell! Congrats Carla
Wow Carla, thats freaking awesome, totally super!!! It my dream to find just one Junonia, we’re planning on a big move down that way so maybe going as often as we can to the beach will give us more chances for a Junonia :)
I love it!! Couldn’t happen to a nicer lady!!
There’s something about Sanibel that just makes me smile. I’m glad it’s not just me.
Yay, Carla! I know just how you feel about the islands. I do the same thing, coming and going. The world just melts away when I roll down the windows and smell the wonderful salty air as I drive over the causeway. I think I can actually feel my blood pressure go down! Enjoy your stay!
In a world of such stress, with people pulling at you from all directions, Sanibel has become the sanctuary for my soul to reboot. I often say when crossing that causeway, I see my worries and other “baggage” fly out the windows of my van. When I reach the Sanibel sand, it’s a feeling of rebirth. I can take in a much deeper breath. My biggest decision of each day is where do I want to go shelling–everything else just fades away. It’s magical. Oh, and the other decision of the day is, in which great restaurant do I want to have dinner. ;-)
Way to go!!!
GOOSEBUMPS!!!!!
AWWWWWWWSSSOMMMME!!! Congrats to Carla! And yes, I too have felt the troubles melt away as we start to cross the causeway…ah…the soul sighs and all is well with the world. I can leave it all behind and enjoy the beauty and wonder that is Sanibel! Thank you, Pam, for keeping the dream alive until we can all get there again.
