The Olympics are so exciting this summer, I figured we’d honor them with an iLoveShelling Sand Dollar Gold Shelling Medal awards shellebration from the best shelling performances on Sanibel/Captiva this week. So without further ado… start the Olympic theme song, please! DaaDa Daaaaa, DaDaa Da Da Da.
The winner of the Gold Shelling Medal goes to…
McKenzie from Orlando! She found this gorgeous golden JUNONIA!! She dug for the gold searching high and low to finally pull out the winning JUNONIA at Blind Pass Captiva on Monday’s evening low tide. Congratulations McKenzie!!! You deserve the Gold!
Winning the Silver Shelling Medal is…
Thomas (and his mom Lori O.) from Virginia! They found this awesome huuugah HORSE CONCH on the Lighthouse beach at low tide. What a find!
And The Bronze Shelling Medal goes to…
Donnie of Fort Myers!! He found a beautiful ALPHABET CONE … and just about the prettiest purple FLAT SCALLOP I’ve ever seen.
Congratulations to all of the Shelling Medalists! You all “worked” very hard for your well earned trophies. (FYI- I really don’t have “medals” for anyone. Those awesome shells are way better than any fake coin with a ribbon attached, right? LOL)
Congrats McKenzie on your JUNONIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WoWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! ;)
Makes me drool! LOL
Love those shells…and the Coquina stars are great! Such a range of color…really nice!
haha- those “stars” were supposed to be the Olympic rings logo. LOL Clark said he thought they were coquina bracelets. ;)
Duh! Should have noticed that! I guess I’m just “star struck” by all your creativeness and all the amazing “finds” that the Olympian shellers found, LOL! Sure wish I could be there to compete.
What a great post! So imaginative! So much fun! Thanks Pam.
Omg, you are so creative, Pam! Love it!! I am so jealous.. I feel like I will never find a horse conch that isn’t alive! And that junonia.. My husband and I were thinking of coming to Sanibel for 5 days since he’s never been yet.. Wd be a dream come true to be on Sanibel twice within a month’s time.. But sadly, I have acquired an infection in my incision from a laparoscopic surgery I had a week ago & might not be able to swim in the ocean.. It actually put me in the hospital. I go back to work in 2 wks, so I don’t have much time to sneak in this getaway..
Sherri from MN
Congrats McKenzie on finding your first junonia and it was great being there and watching you find it and meeting your family…not to mention all the screaming and victory dancing…lol ;-)
It was your day!!!
It was great seeing you Pam and Clark too.
WOW!!! Such awesome shelling! Great finds everyone! Wish I could be there too! Love the lighthouse area!
How creative.
As your fellow World Record holder in the Sanibel Stoop I feel you are the only person qualified & experienced enough to judge this event. Well done Shell Olympians, well done.
Congrats to the winners…with patience & perseverance (and a TON of shelling enthusiasm) they have claimed their prizes. Every shell I find is as exciting to discover as the first one I found. I love hunting for them as much as I love finding them.
So creative Pam…Congrats winners!!!
I LOVE the coquina Olympic logo! I grew up in Tampa and every trip to ANY beach meant digging for coquinas. My mother even made coquina soup once.
Way back then the purples and oranges and pinks and yellows and blues were like jewels to me and my sisters. And to watch them drill back down into their wet sand home was fascinating. Four weeks from today I fly from home in Tualatin, OR to Ft. Myers to drive to Sanibel for a week. I feel nervous with excitement and anticipation.
Awesome!! Hope we have that same shelling luck in October!! Great finds.
Pam, you are so clever!! Love the Olympic medals. So wish I was over there, especially seeing the massive Horse Conch and beautiful Junonia.
Oh Pam I just love the way you see the world- every time I visit your blog I end up with a big ol’ grin on my face!
