CShells sees seashells by the seashore. She snagged this sweet LIONS PAW scallop shell with her seashell sifter when she saw it on Sanibel this week.
CShells really slayed Sanibel when husband Richard reaped rewards of reeling in a remarkable SCOTCH RONNET (Okay, it’s a BONNET, but it’s funnier with the “r” ! Just go with it ;))
Richard recognized its round richness in the rise of the wrack line.
Congratshellations Richard and CShells! You scored the shells!

Two really fabulous shells! Well done CShells and Richard!
Save those kind of goodies for us…we’re arriving on Saturday!
Great job Cshells!!! Pam I FOUND A JUNONIA!!!!!!! My mom and I woke up at 3:00 this morning in Ft.Lauderdale to get to Blind Pass at low tide…and whooowheeee I found it!! It has a really really really thin layer of Calcium build up that I want to take off but your comments on the video for the acid say not to use it on shiny shells…so woulld baby oil or mineral oil work without taking away the color???
The early sheller gets the junonia, that’s how it works huh. Excellent find. Were there other shells coming in at Blind Pass?
Thanks CShells! Yes, some piles were starting to appear but mostly were covered when it started to become high tide.I went to all three beaches (Gulfside city park, blind pass, and lighthouse beach) and blind pass definitely had the most shells, but this might just be because I was there at low tide and didnt get to see the other beached at low tide!
Hi Emma from CA,
Congggggggrrrrrrratulations!
If your Junonia looks good when it is wet, and only looks whitish when dry, then mineral oil should do the trick.
FABulous shells!!! Congrats you two!
Pam, it’s always good seeing you. I have a little correction, I found my lion’s paw Oct. 28th the day before my birthday and the first full day of our vacation. Richard found his scotch bonnet today the last week of our vacation. Is that what happy endings means?
CShells you really did have great luck, I so wish we could’ve met up!! Keep up the good work!! That Lions Paw is BEAUTIFUL….the Scotch Ronnet :) too!!
Awesome shells, congratulations! A lions paw is at the top of my “would love to find” list!
Me, too!! Congrats!! Sherri
Awesome finds
Returned a week ago. No lions paw or scotch bonnet.
Will have to try again in January. I had 1 fighting conch
in the bag with my shells that smelled so bad
that I may never eat fish again. It looked empty
but must have been something lurking inside. Spent the day yesterday
re-cleaning all my finds. Sure a deterrent from taking live stuff home.
That lovely Lion’s Paw shell takes me back to 1960 when my dear Fourth Grade teacher, Mrs. Sawyer would read aloud to us. The book, by Robb White, entitled THE LION’S PAW, was written in 1947… but the essence is timeless. Check it out from the library and even if you live in the coldest corner of the world, the story will transport you back to Captiva, Florida.
See you on the beach!!
Thanks for the reminder…dear ole Robb White… This retired children’s librarian had forgotten this one. 10 days and counting til I am back on the beach.
Great FINDS!!!!!!!!!!!
