I felt like if was raining ROSE PETAL TELLINS at Lovers Key State Park this week.
We pulled up to one of the little islands and saw the sand dotted with pink. We didn’t find many pairs of ROSE PETAL TELLINS but it was so much fun seeing so many singles…
The ANGEL WINGS were out by the dozens as well! I still havent had time to soak them overnight in a bleach solution (1/8 bleach to water) to start cleaning them but I wanted to show you how many we found…
We found the smaller FALSE ANGEL WINGS too. Clark found most of the sweet doubles…
And WORMIES!
Johnny Rescue and Jane wanted to take their new boat “Not His” out for the maiden voyage so they asked Clark and me if we wanted to tag along to Lovers Key. Errrr…. Well I should say “Jane’s new boat” hence the name “Not His”. LOL Even though it was a little chilly, of course we wanted to go. We bundled up and headed out. Here’e Jane in her new Mako…
We don’t get out to the beaches of Lovers Key often but we were pleasantly surprised how many shells and bling there was…
It’s only about 30 minutes from Sanibel to get to the island. I’m not sure about the parking or main beach since we went by boat but I’m sure we will be taking another trip back there soon by car to find out about those details.
But until then… how about a little CYBERSHELLING! Find your own ANGEL WINGS (you know I’ll never be able to write “Angel wing” any more without checking the dang spelling- ha!). Anyway, all along this whole stretch of beach, this was a typical site. Happy CYBERSHELLING! Click to enlarge…
PS- Hope to see you at the Sanibel Shell Fair and Show the next few days!
The wormies are my favorites!
Pam, on the Cayo Costa trip we learned that it takes more than “a little chilly” to keep you from a shelling trip! :-) I love the amazing worm shells! Can’t wait for your reports from the Shell Fair and Show. Thanks for keeping us feeling like we’re there with you.
That pile of wormies is just amazing…what a haul! I really like that perfect orange one towards the top in the middle of the pic.
Can’t wait for the “shell show” report…wish I was there too!
Love those wormshells! Very cool.
Wholy cow!!! I dont think Ive ever seen so many angel wings like that!!
I’ve been to Lovers Key by car the last visit to Sanibel, the Shellabaloo, shelling wasreally good but I hadnt thought about boating it!! Gives me good ideas for a trip with Capt Brian!!! Cool!!
Wahoo…shell fair!!!! Awesome…wish I was there for it this year. Was there last year and it mind blowing!!
So love following your site! Have my in-laws addicted too!
Now we all want to head to the Turks & Caicos Islands where you spent your vacation! Love your finds today! Great craft “fodder”!
Lovers keys was on my list last year but stay only on Sanibel, but was already on my list for this year.
There is gobs of parking at Lovers Key and a shuttle to the beach but get there early :D Also you must pay, I believe, $8 to get in and they do not open the gate until 8 but there are neat places to pull off & shell & good birding around there if you’re there early & at low tide
Pam, did you find any sharks teeth there? I thought I read that you could find them there.
Donna, I had my eyes pealed for sharks teeth but didn’t see a one. Lovers key is a little north of Barefoot Beach where I’ve found them before.
Good to know! Thanks! :)
Wow! Looks like so much fun!
Great shots of the tellins and wormies! Pam, have you thought about selling art prints of your images? You have so many gorgeous images that would look really great framed…
Heehee thank you Susan! Funny you say that… I’ve been working on a little project. I can’t say anything more about it but I hope to have some news soon.
Wow! Love all the angel wings and rose petal tellin. We were at Lover’s Key yesterday on the main beach and did not see a single tellin or angel wing but did find a nice assortment of shells. You had to go to the end of the beach and around the corner to find really good shelling.
Hope to see you at the shell show! Looking forward to it!
Pam, when I was teaching in a Catholic school, one of the kindergarten teachers sent home a note about the Christmas pagent the class was going to preform. She listed parts each child would play. Among the parts was a list of who were going to play the “angles.” Every time I read about the angle wings of think of that poor teacher.
Oh Jeanne, I loooove that story! Hahahah I hope she laughs at it now too.
Angel wings and wormies…two of my favorites! Looks like the shelling was really good for you! Seriously, I always thought it was a rarity and difficult to find Angel Wings. Awesome trip! Glad you went and shared your adventure.
I loved your mirror of wormies and wondered how many years it took to gather all of them. Now I see that a few trips like this one and you would have plenty. I will put this place on my every growing list. MEM
We are planning our first trip to Florida in April, and I am soooo interested in shelling, so I just love the info you provide. Thank you!!
Awesome shelling trip. I, too, will have to chat with Capt. Brian about a shelling cruise there in October!!
Love those PINK telling! I’m green with envy. Nice to see you both last night as celebrity wine pourers :-)
Thanks for sharing! Never did find any angel wings in all the trips to Sanibel. I put the wormie shells on the shell mirrors I have made over the years. Like the shapes.
Is it wrong that I love to cyber-shell because of the SLOW pace…no frantic searches before the next wave!! :-)
Haha!! Me too!! I even pause her videos to get an even better look :)
AT LAST WE HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON – I DO GET TO COLLECT TALLINS, ALTHO NOT AS MANY AS YOU HAVE THERE) ALSO WE HAVE LOTS OF :FALLEN ANGELS: AND REAL ANGELS. THEY ARE SO FRAGILE, I TRY TO KEEP THE PAIRS, BUT MOST TIME THEY SEPARATE BY THE TIME HOME.
WORMIES– 0H HOW LUCKY YOU ARE,I LOVE THEM. I’LL BE OUT FOR MY -4 TIDE AT EASTER TIME AND SEE WHAT I CAN COLLECT.
JANET IN AZ
Pam,
I am so jealous!!!!
I launched my kayak off Little Hickory and explored some of those outer islands last summer. I was fine until the tide turned. A motor would have come in very handy indeed.
Glad to know you made it back. :)
Pam, I have been searching for wormies to purchase for a project I am working on……. do you sell them or know who would that I could contact? : ) Have a super blessed day! And thanks for making me smile every time I read your wonderful blog! : )
I’m so sorry Sandra but I don’t sell shells. I use them for so many different projects and I don’t know where u can purchase them. They are precious!
I make you smile? That makes ME smile!!!
Haven’t found any Rose petal tellins yet. Love the Angel wings and wormies.
Have fun at the shell show.
Pat
Ohhhh Pam… My eyes lit up when I saw your worm shell collection! I did find tellins at Tigertail Beach on Marco Island last December and they are that pretty :) You must have had a wonderful day on Lover’s Key and I am sooo jealous sitting here in the snow :(
Pam,
My wife and I will be visiting Sanibel April 12-15 this year. My wife will be 7.5 months pregnant at the time we’re visiting. We have a cabin on the beach and are looking forward to some shelling and lounging. Would you recommend a full day or half day trip to one of the islands for a shelling excursion?
Can’t wait to see your beautiful home!

Wonderful pics. We are headed over to Sanibel this weekend and may need to divert to Lovers Key!
Oh my goodness…look at all the wormies! I hope Pam will share her secret to finding them with me @ Shellabaloo 2 ;-D.
Remind me, Lisa!
Love all the shells, especially the angel wings and wormies. Can’t believe how many you found. Were you digging in muck to find the angel wings??? Jane’s new Mako looks awesome!!
We didnt dig for the Angel Wings. Look at the last 2 photos… they were sitting in the wrack line as plain as day. We were so surprised!
I may be going to Marco Island in September. Is there any good shelling there? Does anyone have tips or favorite shelling places to share?
Love, Love, Love your website and this trip to Lovers Key. I will be on Sanibel in May and mean to sign up for the shelling cruise on May 19th tomorrow. Hope it is not full.
When you walk on the beach and you find this red or pink shells, are you happy?
