Wow! There are bazillions of PEN SHELLS and EGG CASES on the beach at GULFSIDE CITY PARK…
There are HORSE CONCH EGG CASES, LIGHTNING WHELK EGG CHAINS, PEAR WHELK CHAINS, PAPER FIG EGG CASINGS and SKATE EGG CASES.
There was lots of other types of BLING on the beach as well. It was a crazy site! Here is a MILLIPEDE STARFISH…
I met a group of 6 gals on a Girls Getaway Trip that were fascinated by all of the BEACH BLING that had washed up. Some of them had never been shelling on Sanibel before so I told them that this is not an every day site to see so many PEN SHELLS and EGG CASES. From left to right, meet Laurel, Lea, Carol, Jenifer, Lori and Suzanne… all from Philadelphia…
And yes, they were finding shells! Along with lots of other shells, Lea found a BANDED TULIP, a TRUE TULIP and the shell from a PURSE CRAB.
When we see this many PEN SHELLS washed up on the beach, that usually means there will be good shelling in days to come as well. Yeah!
That should mean some good shelling on Saturday for all of us on the iLoveShelling trip to Cayo Costa on Captiva Cruises. Yippee! And guess what, we now have some more dates for the summer. CLICK HERE for 2013 schedule with the new dates …
Did you just have a couple days of wind, rain and waves? We’re getting it now!
Wow, I’ve never seen so many egg casings before. Good news -There are some really good minus low’s coming up. Not so good news – They are all between 2-5am.
Seems like the minus lows are always in the middle of the night in the winter. But … I get up anyway. :)
Kaybe, if I know you, you’ll be out there no matter what time it is!
Insane! Love all the beach bling! Thanks for sharing!
Nice to see a girls’ getaway trip from Philly (I’m next door in Bucks County). I hope you are all enjoying the great beaches and shelling. Even though you look a little cold, it’s better than being home. :) ENJOY!!!!
Wow! Look at all of those egg casings! Soo, looking forward to Saturday! Think I’m going to bring a larger bucket! :-)
Holy Smokes! That’s sure some great beach bling! Congrats to everyone on all their “finds” and can’t wait to see what y’all find over the next few day, esp. the trip to Cayo Costa! Thanks, Pam.
I will be on the cruise to Cayo Costa this Saturday with my Dad! I am so looking forward to it!!! Hopefully there will be some great shells!!
Shelling cruise for Saturday is SOLD OUT =( I waited too long…
I’ve never seen so many egg cases! Now did anyone find out if it does any good to throw them back in the water? Does it mean that we will loose all those future shells? It’s been very windy up here on LI today. Good luck on the cruise.
Pat
Pam told me that she looked into it, and it seems that once theyve washed up, because there are so many environmental changes to the eggs/cases, its too late to save them. It seems such a shame to see them all washed up like that, but its nature taking its course.
Surely some of them are already hatched?
Pam, I just clicked on the link for 2013 dates and it says the page does not exist??? I’ll try later on today and see if that’s still the case and let you know then.
You are a doll, VickiS! You are right, I messed up the link.. so I just fixed it thanks to you! xo
Pam, I am so excited…My hisband and I are driving from Ohio to Sanibel in June and I so wanted to get to meet you, even bought a turquoise t-shirt and had white letters saying WHERE IS PAM ? Hoping to see you or rather have you see me on the beach. But better yet you scheduled a shelling cruise for June 19t the day we arrive…….YEA I just signed up. Roy and I will be there for the cruise even before we can check in at the Island Inn. I am so looking forward to the day.
hahahaha thats hillarious! Cant wait to meet you on the cruise!
Such an interesting beach! Wish I could fly down there for the weekend because I’ll bet you are going to have some great shelling in the next few days! Meant to tell you thanks for the great photos of the Shell Fair; what would we do without you?!!
Can’t wait to be ON Sanibel Island. Counting the days. rita
