We went for a boat ride around North Captiva on Saturday. Â It’s been months since we’ve been on our boat so he was bound and determined to get out and about on the water. Of course we had to stop at plenty of beaches to look for shells.
We found a few! Of course I was thaaa-rilled to find this beautiful wormie and a couple of perfect medium sized SAND DOLLARS.
But. My favorite find of the weekend was this lemon yellow ROUGH SCALLOP. Yummy find!
We spent a good part of the day watching the wildlife and fell in love with several ROSEATE SPOONBILL birds feasting on tiny fish or crabs in the low tide pools…
We found a few more shells but these are our faves. I know, I know… Yes, those are DEPRESSED SLIPPER SHELLS in our faves pile but we saw so many, I feel like they were speaking to me. And when I bent down to pick up a SAND DOLLAR or WORM SHELL or that cute little DUSKY CONE, I couldn’t help but pick up a pretty JINGLE or two as well. JINGLES make me happy- I dont know why- they just do. It was such a wonderful day to be out on the water and out with my honey. He makes me happy too.
Love the yellow scallop and the wormies. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who can’t help picking up the jingle shells. ;-)
I feel the same way about the jingles!! For some reason I sing ” I got spurs that jingle jangle jingle” (in my head) EVERY time I find one!! Silly I know, but it’s become habit…. :D
I had to google that song, Cheri, to hear what u sing. Hahaha it’s a catchy cute little tune for jingles!
I started singing it from memory, so what does that say about my age! LOL And I also love Jingles, love the blacks.
What area did you see the Spoonbill birds? When we’ve been down, we’ve rented a boat a number of times out of Captiva. We usually go through Red Fish pass, hug the Coast of North Captiva and of course stop at Caya Costa….but we’re never really sure where else to stop. Could you help me out for any future (hopefully) trips? Thanks so much! I have yet to find a horse conch of any size…are they usually found in the water or …?
I’m curious too, about where the Spoon Bills can be observed.. there appears to be an I.D. band on the right leg…. hoping they are no longer endangered.Spoonies have cute “built in smile” kinda like dolphins.
Hope you find lots of them !!
Love the photos of blue sky and water. Love the yellow rough scallop too.

So THAT’S what they’re called lol! Depressed Slipper Shells…I picked up a whole bunch when I was there for Shellabaloo 2. Another gorgeous set of photos Pam! Hello to Clark & purrrrrr to the kitties :-)

I am in love!! Your photos are so picture-postcard! It’s a dream for me to see a roseate spoonbill so close like you did! Awesome!
Hi Pam,
After having lost my “honey ” a few months ago I know how important it is to drop everything and do things you enjoy together. I’m so grateful we did that and that you two do that also. ENJOY LIFE !!! It’s short. Sue Bunkin
So so sorry for your loss, but just always remember thoses times you spent together.
You are so right Sue. We need to enjoy life every day and enjoy what we have right in front of us. Hope you are doing ok xoxo
Thanks for the XOXO. I’m doing okay. Hard to be alone in a big house with a cat and parrot that says hello and F….you. Thank goodness I’m spending a lot of time with my wonderful grandchildren. I’m looking at “Flipkey” right now and trying to decide if I should drop everything and run to Sanibel for a morale boost. I’ll be back at Mitchell’s for several weeks the end of Dec into January. I’m hoping to take Kaitlyn, Matt and Karley on the Jan 3 shelling trip. Take care, Sue
So much fun! Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a condo on the beach with shelling (of course!). My husband and I have a special anniversary coming up, and we’d like to splurge for a place with amenities and nice beaches on Sanibel. Thanks!
We stayed at Ocean’s Reach in June 2012, and it was perfect even with Tropical Storm Debby. A very short walk to the beach from our front door. Nice screened in porch. I have it stuck on the wall by my desk, because I’m definitely going back.
Thanks Anita! We’ll check it out :)
We stayed at Ocean’s Reach too .. back in May … and loved it! Our condo was 1D1, ground floor at the end of the resort so we were right next to the nature preserve. Only a very short walk to the beach and the pool. Ocean Reach’s website has a great feature where you can click on each condo in the complex and take a virtual tour, so you don’t have to rent one “sight unseen”. We loved the decor in 1D1 and its location sealed the deal! :-) Our stay there met all expectations, so I’m very happy to recommend Ocean’s Reach. I even signed up for their blog and newsletter, just so I can still visit virtually until we go back again. Hope this helps! :-)
the only ones not enjoying the day were the depressed slipper shells.
ha ha ha
Haaaaaaa, good one!
heeeheee too cute!
Gorgeous images Pam!!! :)
I am sitting here looking out my window and seeing the lawn covered with fallen leaves, guess where I want to be?
Gotta love those two enormous wormies! And that yellow scallop, yummy is the perfect description!
Beautiful. Just beautiful
Life is truly good
The first picture in your post looks like a painting! So beautiful!
So jealous! I visited Sanibel for the first time this past June and have been missing it since. My daughter and I check your blog every day to see what we’re missing out on. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful finds
