Not only did shellers find WHELKS, SUNRAY VENUS CLAMS, OLIVES and CONCHS like Corly and Paul from Iowa found on our iLoveShelling cruise to Cayo Costa Island…
But there were some SAND DOLLARS, BABY’S EARS, LACE MUREXES and SHARKS EYES found…
By folks like the Bunkin family…Keith, Karley, Melissa, Sue, Kaitly, Matthew and Joeylynn.
I may have turned a little green with envy after seeing this shellmazing WORM SHELL and shelltastic HORSE CONCH. We are always so happy to see mid sized HORSE CONCHS – they don’t seem as common to find this size.
Jan and Tara from Indianapolis were the lucky shellers to find them.
Sweet Elna from North Carolina was so excited to find two WENTLETRAPS.
After looking at her shells, I think she only found one WENTLETRAP (then picked up the beautiful COCQUINA) and the other white shell was very unusual looking. Hmmmm. Now that I can see it in the photo a bit better, I think it’s a worn FLY SPECK CERITH.
William from Atlanta found one of my fave pieces of BEACH BLING… a big ol hunk of WORM ROCK.
As you can see everybody in coats and hats, our weather in southwest Florida got pretty chilly (low 60s) with some good high north winds. But the best part of the morning at Cayo Costa was  seeing parts of the beach that normally aren’t exposed because of the very low tide. You can see Savannah searching around sandy “peaty” areas which are rarely exposed.
“Oh Look, y’all! It’s an ANGEL WING!” Burrowed in that peaty decomposed tree stump area, I saw just a little tiny part of a FALSE ANGEL WING peeking out. So sweet!
I filmed us spotting these precious little ANGELS tucked away and sharing in the joy of a true treasure hunt … enjoy!
They are perfect! It was truly so much fun to share this experience with our group.
Vanessa from San Fransicsco found a teeny tiny WING too..
This is very unusual… I found the lip of a broken DEER COWRIE right as we got off the boat. Weird.
The day was such an adventure as we started off with the cold weather and whipping wind but with a Captiva Cruises boat load of awesome shellers and my A #ONE by my side, it was a shelltabulous time.
PS- Im sure you noticed my hand completely scratched up in the video as I pulled out those FALSE ANGEL WINGS… our new little kitty is crraaaazy! LOL

Really gorgeous big wormie! Big chunk of deer cowry! Paired False Angel Wings in situ! Cool stuff. :)
Wow people found some nice shells. That was a big wormie, worm rock and deer cowrie piece. Do angel wings hang around the same area as the false angel wing? 60 degrees is alot warmer than up here. We have had single digit temp and about 10 inches of snow. I hope it’s warmer in Feb. How old is your new kitty? Pat
We got him just before Christmas from he pound and now we think he is about 7 months old. He’s calming down but he was so excited to be here, all he wanted to do was play! he’s got those sharp little kitten claws. ack!
Congratulations to those with all those great finds. I’m driving through Iowa right now heading your way. It’s super windy right now. Can’t wait for nicer weather.
Looks awful cold there. Why is everybody bundled up. Now we have snow in NJ this weekend and it is 24 days til I get there, but I don’t want to have to pack anything long sleeve, much less a jacket or sweatshirt. Where is the HOT weather…. :)
We had a cold front (low 60s) come through on Thursday night and friday morning the wind was so strong, we had some lower temps. Today it was back in the high 70s. I like it because the cold weather brings in the shells!
I was wearing everything I own. Burrrr-rrr.
But so excited to make it into I Love Shelling history!
More or less the whole country is having a cold snap, and some of that has even reached southern Florida. I see SW FLorida is 44 degrees this morning at 10 am. It will warm up again soon though!
When I go to Sanibel in the winter time I do always take a couple of long-sleeve shirts because when you go out shelling in the very early morning (or at night) you might need an extra layer.
Looks a little weird to see all you folks bundled up in coats down there. :-)
Hi, Pam. What’s the story on the shell-laden tree? It looks wonderful! carol
So cute – those false angel wings….glad you had a cool but fantastic trip!
Great job! You did GREAT! ;)
It was so wonderful to finally meet you and Clark and to see Brian Holoway again! Now we know you can make any adventure fun in spite of the weather!! Loved learning about the tiny false angel wings burrowing in the peat – a new one for us. And I’m so glad you took a picture of the shell decorated tree – I figured it was left from the osprey’s holidays. Paul is going to post some great osprey pictures he got. We are now back in Iowa and it is -15 degrees, a real soup-making day! Even our Swiss Bernese Mountain dog won’t venture out… Happy New Year everyone!
Oh Corly, I remember you especially because we chatted about our dogs and I said I love Bernese Mt. Dogs. But who doesn’t? Our darling was the cheerful blond Golden Retriever, Camden.
It was such a wonderful day and I wanted to say how nice it is to meet shelling folks. I bet they’re always a great group.
I’ve sometimes found dead trees with shells hanging on them. Just random beaches. Maybe somebody knows if there is a story that goes along with them but I always like to play along and add a few more shells to the branches, just to say another shell hunter had come along.
When it’s cold here I often check the weather in Sanibel. Good Lord!! The Weather Channel says the low tonight is 38 degrees… on my favorite little island! Go buy your long johns Pam & snuggle with Clark tonight.
Wow! AMAZING SEASHELLSSSS!!!!! So sweet that you got some playtime in with your kitties. Cats are so funny. And I can’t believe that it was 60 degrees down there!!! Today in North GA it was approximately 5 degrees. Freezing cold. Its really neat what a difference being one state northward can make.
It was a great day, and the cold weather made it even more of an adventure! Thank you Pam- and Clark, for all of your tips and knowledge! I’ve been dreaming about shelling on Cayo Costa every night since the cruise- literally!
Wow! what a great website, love all the shell treasures. I have to get out there soon. Thanks for posting my work, was nice meeting you that day on the beach.
