Sunrise. There’s something so peaceful about beach combing on Sanibel as the sun rises over the Gulf Of Mexico. It makes the rest day even more special after receiving a gift of the sea like this beautiful LIGHTNING WHELK.
Soooo…. why don’t I do it more often??? Ack! It’s terrible that I don’t take advantage of seeing such an incredible welcome from the sun each day. But… I’m just not a morning person. I do love to shell in the morning when there is a very low tide like this week at sunrise so I went to Gulfside City Park to find these beauties…
Every day has been such different shelling at Blind Pass the past few weeks so since I was already up and at ’em, I showed up at Blind Pass Sanibel by 8 am to find the shell pile getting even bigger. As I’ve said before, it only take 2 hours for this beach to change from “not many shells” to “Holy cowrie! Look at all the shells!”.
I met Carol and Terri from Pennsylvania who were thrilled with their morning treasures…
These were Terri’s fave finds. Wow! She said if she had to pick one, that stunning GAUDY NATICA (COLORFUL MOON SHELL) was her ultimate find.
I asked Carol what her fave treasures were from the morning and this is what she showed me. Wow again! Two dark KINGS CROWNS and they both found CANDY!
This was just a peek in Terri’s shell bag…
So I think I will just enjoy the few mornings like this when I have the umpfff to get out to see sunrise.
It makes the day even more special.
I’m working on dates for more shelling adventures so I hope to have those by the end of the week. Stay tuned!
Marvelous photos, Pam. They look like paintings. Coming this weekend and bringing friends to shell at Blind Pass❤️
We are in New Mexico now….I miss my Sanibel!
such a beautiful picture of the sunrise. simply takes your breathe away!
Pretty things!
Nice to see you yesterday! Those gals found great shells! We had good luck too, if I get organized enough, i’ll post on FB.
Hi Pam!
Love your site! I’ve been shelling since my grandma taught me a looong time ago. I’ve never posted here but I wanted to share a photo with you. It is of a roll cloud over our beach in Naples today! The shells weren’t great but the cloud made up for it! I’d love to share it! I’m a good sheller but you’s diehard:)
Sincerely,
Park Shore Sheller Dweller.
So pretty! Looking forward to seeing more and hearing about the shelling adventures!
Great shots! I bet the water is warmer than the air.
Well dang! :) I”m finally on Sanibel and let the cold convince me to sleep in this morning–won’t let that happen the rest of the week. See you out there.
Well Pam, I am proud of you for getting up early on the mornings that you do. :) I’m not a morning person either but when the low tide calls, you gotta get up. The worst part for me is that when I come in February, the low tides always seem to be at 2am and 3am and WOW that is hard. :)
Beautiful pictures.
Hi Pam,
I am finally on Sanibel and in heaven! However I am curious as to exactly where the shells are located. I have been searching the water’s edge with only minimal luck. Do I need to go in deeper or stick with the wrack line? My sister will join. Me here on Sat. and then we will find the shells, right? We have been coming to Sanibel since 1985!
Linda, didn’t you see that big shell pile Blind Pass Sanibel like in these photos? Here’s a parking map if you don’t know where that is. Its a treasure hunt!
Love the golden tones of your photos! Beautiful! And wonderful shells!
Beautiful! My husband and I are headed to Sanibel on Saturday for my birthday!!! Can’t wait to shell again! The snow in Steamboat Springs hasn’t stopped.
Pam:
Were you laying down on the beach sand, in between waves, to get your perspective for the sunrise on sea shells photos?
They sure are terrific photos ( all three of them at sunrise ).
Thanks for capturing the sunrise at the beach for us folks who wish we were there with you, even if it was 6:30 AM.
Mike
Mike, I prob look like ” the spider” like that Columbian golfer. Hahaha
OK, so Pam when you’re photographing on the sand, taking all those
those gorgeous shots….. a’la Spider Man reading his putts….
don’t be surprised if you get the nick-name CHICA A`RANA !!
SPIDER GIRL :)

Beautiful pictures. Did you use an editing software technique on that first one to get that paint quality?
