Thank you both. I know Susan you already had your trip to Sanibel, but I was wondering if you were going to be there again Donna? It would be nice to meet up with you again.
Sorry but i won’t be there for a while…we just bought a new house so we want to rebuild our bank accounts back up.. :( it was so neat to see you and Pam last year!!
I’m sorry I won’t get to see you again. I do understanfd about the house though. It was so nice to meet you and seeing Pam at the Lighthouse beach and hunting wentletraps together was a real highlight. Hopefully you will be able to get back next February and we can shell together again.
My son asked me today, “Mom, is there anything Pam can’t ‘shellinize’?” My response was simply “No.” ;-D Hope your day was shelltacular! Love to all the Rambo’s!
Went to Blind Pass today. The beach has been filled in with a lot of sand-no shell piles yet. There were some young men out there riding the waves on their surf boards. Still managed to find a lot of minis-cats eyes, calico clams and painted egg cockles. Pat
A “cats eye” is the operculum (trapdoor) of a turban snail — in this case from the chestnut turbans. Pam says they are also called shiva shells or mermaid money.

This Special Shellentine and all the Shellers’ replies made this one of my FAVE HOLIDAYS !! Home in Tucson now, yet still on CAPTIVA ISLAND TIME, I wake up before dawn, yearning to be back on the beach at TWEEN WATERS… with my headlamp glowing, finding shiny calico clam shells. So, this VALENTINE’S DAY gave us a lovely full moon and I went to ILS and opened the MUCKY DUCK Beach Cam at 4:46am to watch the nearly full moon set… half an hour before sunrise, the sky was dark and the moonlight sparkled on the GULF. I saved the image on my phone gallery. OMGoodness, it’s gorgeous :)
Thank you for including web cams & moon phases on ILS. I would have never dreamed I could watch the cyber~setting of the FLA moon from AZ !!

May I ask, what’s a Cat’s Eye?

They are round, shiny and a little brown. It is solid with a flat bottom. Once I found a couple, I kept finding them. Pat

I love these pretty little pink shells. They are one of the very few varieties on our local beaches that I can find quite a lot of.
