Merry “Shelly “Christmas! How did you keep your hand so steady in order to take the picture? Love all the minis. Is that a mini alphabet in the buttercup? Nice bracelet. Can’t wait untill we come. Pat
In the buttercup all the way on the left? That’s a half-grown fly-speck cerith. The ones in the cockle to the left of the two buttercups are baby fighting conchs (and of course a gorgeous baby horse conch too.)
Pam, I see you picked up a new-born fighting conch.
I should say newly-hatched… but anyway, it’s in the buttercup at the far right, the tiny white one with the long siphonal canal pointing to the 5 o’clock mark. :)
Awesome!!!! Thanks for replying, I’m always curious how people can tell shells that are young vs. just tiny!!

Sorry, I was on automatic pilot; I should have said new-born lightning whelk.
Learning which shells are juveniles and which are adult tiny ones is something you learn with experience, judging mostly by seeing how big is the part of the shell the creature is born with, compared with how big is the rest of the shell.

Very interesting! I just had to Google how shell creatures are born – something I’ve always wondered but never actually looked up!
I’m pretty sure my fiance found a young alphabet cone yesterday because it was so small!
Merry Christmas Pam. Hope you and your family have a wonderful day. Wish I could be there to stroll the beaches all day. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication to this site. It’s my favorite thing to read online and it always brings a smile to my face. Sending hugs from cold NY … :)
Thank you for all the beautiful pictures you have posted. Looking forward to meeting you in February and going on one of your shelling cruises.
Merry Christmas to all my fellow shellers.
Merry Christmas, Pam! Thanks for all that you do to brighten my dreary days here in the Northland and to keep me looking forward to the next time I’m in FL!
Merry Christmas! One of my favorite presents is an overnight stay in west wind inn over spring break when we are staying in Naples. I’m hoping to book a spot on an iloveshelling cruise!! Have a very Shelly holiday season, Pam!
I see some jingles in there too. Jingle shells, jingle shells, jingle all the way…Oh what fun it is to shell on a Sanibel day! Hey!

Merry Shelly Christmas Pam!!
Have a question for you – are the weekends in Sanibel much busier than the weekdays? We are thinking of taking a trip down tomorrow or Sunday but wonder about the post-Christmas crowds…..
Also you don’t happen to have a cruise this weekend with 2 spots free? (Hey, might as well ask! Haha)
This week between christmas and new years is THE busiest week of the year. So it doesnt matter which day this week- every day you will see crowds. Its crazy! And somsorry but i dont have an iLS shelling cruise this week. January 7 is the next one- join us!
Thanks for the reply! We ended up sticking around here despite the crowds as well. Yesterday the ocean shelling was calm but not very fruitful ;-)
Is the cruise on the 7th the full day one?
We may only make a day trip to the area so might not be able to fit it in but we’ll see! I really want to go on one!
They are Beach Access points on West Gulf Drive. You can see where they are on the Sanibel map which you can find by clicking on the tab at the top of this page. However, there is no public parking at those Beach Access points, and therefore as a visitor (as opposed to a resident) you would have to ride your bike there, or walk there, or have someone drop you off there and pick you up again later.
I hope you & Clark had a Very Shelly Christmas! Have fun Shellibrating in the New Year!
FYI…I had friends staying at the Whitby White House on North Caicos when I was on Provo in November so of course I went to North/Middle for a visit/tour. Loved it!
