Shellzam! Super Sheller Clark found an incredishell 11 inch LIGHTNING WHELK this weekend.
All along the Sanibel shoreline from Blind Pass to Bowman’s Beach, there were strings of shells lining the beach just waiting to be picked through. Looking at this next photo, Clark found his WHELK around the furthest point in the background while in knee deep water… half buried in the sand. He said he only saw 1/4 of it. Oh yaya!
Thanks to a iLoveShelling Facebook post by Carrie L – she told us there was a pile of shells that built up around the old wood jetty at Blind Pass Sanibel – we had to see it.
I could tell there had already been lots of people that had picked through this pile (but they missed so many!).
These were just some of the shells from this pile and along the shoreline…
I wasn’t the only one happy to be finding shells again at Blind Pass- Michael, Lindsay, Emma, Taylor from Vero Beach, FL found some gems too.
These are a few of their faves… CONCHS, WHELKS, TULIPS, OLIVES, MUREXES and SCALLOP shells.
Kathy and Angie visiting from PA were just as happy too..
Nice pickins with a sweet WORMIE to boot!
These are my favorite kind of evenings… beach combing at sunset.
Espeshelly when when we get to bring home one of these big bad trophies- way to go Clark! Boom Shellalaka!
Love that sunset blue bag image!
Once again, what wonderful fun and great finds!! And good for Clark for finding that huge whelk. Lucky him! I also love the photo you took of the family from FL–with those gorgeous blues in the background and the bright colors of the girl’s suit and shelling net. Great job, Pam!
Awesome shell! Heading down from Canada in 2 weeks and family is so excited. Will be checking back often to see what Blind Pass is like then. Looking forward to the great low tides I see are coming our first week there. Making olive shell (collected last trip) bracelets for me and my 2 girls right now :)
I swear when I see your beautiful photos I can imagine the sounds and smells of Sanibel. It is so ingrained upon my mind! I’m booked for the May shelling cruise and I had a dream I missed the boat!! Ugh! 2 weeks to go! I’ll still be watching from afar! Youngest daughter asked me if we could go ahead and pack her suitcase today! He he he!
Wow! Love that lightning whelk, and it’s good to know that there are so many shells at Bowman’s Beach right now.Go Clark!
Boom shellalaka Clark! Great photos!
I also found a Whelk like Clark’s last month on a sand bar close to The Colony. I have the best collection to drive up north next week. February was the best month for shells here. I’m looking forward to next winter.
Hot darn! What a find! You shell are a lucky fella! Can you bottle that luck Clark?
Wow thats huge! I love Whelks! :D
Thanks for posting our pics! we are so glad we got to meet you and are looking forward to our next trip to Sanibel for more shelling!! I found you on Facebook as well so I can keep up with your blog posts and news! Happy Shelling!
Beautiful whelk, congrats to Clark for finding such a beauty!
Great photos and pretty shells, what could be better? Thanks for sharing them!
My sister and I are staying on Manasota Key and went to Sanibel for the day on Friday. Tried Gulf City Park, not so hot, then to Blind Pass Captiva, no shell pile.
i said, let’s try the Sanibel side. Low and Behold! Piles of shells approching low tide . We are probably some of the shellers who got there before you and missed a lot. Would have stayed there but I wanted to go to Lighthouse beach for low tide at 4pm. Found lots of live shells there so no luck to take home. Should have stayed on the Pass beach. However, the day was awesome, my sister and I had not been to Sanibel together since down for a family funeral in the 90’s. It was a special day for us.
Ohhhh all those shells make me so ‘beachsick’! I love those tulips (and of course the giant whelk)!
Hi Pam! My friend Sarah and I were on Sanibel from the 14-18th. We went over to Cayo Costa on Sat morning and met the shark guy, Elliot! He is awesome! He took our pic to show you when I told him that I bought your beautiful whelk canvas when I was at Sealife by Congress. And, I’m going to get the Lighthouse one and sand dollar ones, too! Love them all so much! My friend and I also both got each other the adorable silver shell bracelet! We got to meet Alyssa and her hubby while there. Such great people! Thx for the photos. They are so pretty in my bathroom that has a beach theme! Missing Sanibel sooo much already! Sherri from MN
I’m so sorry I missed you Sherri! Elliot sent me the adorable picture of all three of you. Sounds like you had a great time. And THANK YOU!!!! I’m so tickled you bought the whelk canvas and now we have matching bracelets too! I hope I get to see you next time when yall r in Sanibel. Thanks for your note!
