King Neptune must have lots of fun seeing our jaws drop when he pulls the tide out and lets us peek at all the living creatures on the sea bed during a full moon.
I can just see Mother Nature giggling at him then scattering a few empty treasures on the shore and coloring the sky to play along in the Neptune’s beach drama game.
Clark was happy to play along to collect her shell loot.
Chris and Jamie (MO) were there to witness the fun of King Neptune and Mother Nature.
They sounded just like Clark and me when we “co-mingle” our shells and then try to claim the ones we “know” we found. “No, I found that one!”- “No, you didn’t, I found that ALPHABET CONE”. hahaha Well whoever found it, it’s going to the same house so all is good.
Jason along with his kids Grayson, Katelyn, Leah and Gavin were at Lighthouse beach to see the amazement of all of the live FIGHTING CONCHS. They all found empty shells as well to take home to Jacksonville to have fun identifying later.
Oh my… and the BEACH BLING. Such cool bling like MUREX EGG CASE (back), MERMAID PURSES (SKATE EGG CASES), CORAL, SEA WHIPS, URCHINS, STRIATE PIDDOCKS drilling holes in DRIFT WOOD and a black ROUGH SCALLOP.
And there’s one more egg case we can’t quite positively identify… anybody know?
My fave thing the whole weekend was this little tiny heart drilled in a PEN SHELL. I don’t know why… it just made me incredibly happy to discover it when there was so much obvious beauty surrounding me.
It made me feel like a kid.

See you Wednesday!
Hey Pam! I am so sad we are going to miss your famous shelling cruises this summer. We will be there June 6-20th. But hopefully we will run into you at Gulf City Park, since we will be staying right next store at Sandpiper Beach! I hope I can see all these conchs!
Pam,
My sister and I are coming to Sanibel next weekend for the week. We were wondering what store, Bailey’s possibly, would carry the sea shell sifter or should I order online? Can’t wait to get there!! Staying at Point Santo, any tips for that area?
Hi Debbie, u can get them on the island. I would click on the tab on the side here and email them to see who is carrying them on the island- I havent been shopping lately to know :(
Great idea! I will do that. So excited about our trip. I have always wanted to come to Sanibel so this is a dream come true! I have thoroughly enjoyed your website!
They carry the sifters in a souvenier type shop in the Jerrys Supermarket shopping center.
Me and a fellow mother/baby nurse will be visiting the island for the first time. We are new friends who love to shell and save lives! Work has been busy so we decided to take a road trip from Clearwater and visit the island for some good shellin. We work at All Children’s in St. Petersburg. We are coming early in the morning on May 8th. We plan to spend the day there and have a lunch there. We also want to shop. We love your web site. We hope we see you there. God Bless!
Beautiful photos Pam!
Pam
The unidentified “egg case” appears to me to be not an egg case at all, rather a bleached form of Cactus algae. Let me know if I’m wrong.
Love your website.

Hi ken, I looked up the cactus algae… Hmmmm… I really don’t think it’s that either. Dang it. Thank u so much for giving me another possibility!!
Hey Debbie, If you are staying at Point Santo, the best part of the beach is to your left when you go out. It is Gulfside City Park. Good luck shelling & have fun.

LOVE the colors in that 2nd picture!
Are some months better for shelling than others? I’m trying to plan a trip to Sanibel before Thanksgiving. I wondered if different shells are more abundant in some months?
Thank you.
Pam,
You have such a gift for catching the beautiful beach scenes in your photos. They touch the soul. Thank you, Sandi from Illinois
I am here and trying to have some fun on Sanibel island hope you didn’t find all the shells looks like clark had fun -I love shelling r.g.stein
Drove down from Siesta Key today, 4 hrs return, went to Blind Pass & Bowmans Beach…guess we picked the wrong day, not one welk or conch, couple of
scotch bonnet and kitten paws and 99% scallops.
Your photography is just amazing! That pear whelk in the 6th photo is gorgeous. Happy shelling!
They are lovely. I find very similar shells on my local beach but they are always mostly destroyed by the birds here.
How Beautiful!
Hi Pam, your Wednesday trip is full, of course. Do you think the shelling might be good on the thursday Cayo costa trip? We leave saturday
I heard that yesterday was great shelling on Cayo Costa so it would be fun to check it out Thursday… But with that being said, the beaches change by the hour So ya never know what you will find on the beach until you get there. That’s why it’s a treasure hunt :) Good luck!!!
Pam-could the egg case be a scotch bonnet? There was a drawing in a book that looked similar, but the picture was small. I tried looking on the BMSM website, but I couldn’t access the shell page. Hope you find out what it is. Pat
dang it- its not the egg to the scotch bonnet either- i just looked that one up too. rasher frasher! thanks for trying Pat!!!!!
