Well there you are ol’ blue eye! I found the prettiest PAUL NEWMAN’S EYE SHARKS EYE at Bowman’s Beach over the weekend. I just love to find these special shells with the bright blue center.
After walking a while, Clark and I found one little spot that produced lots of other gorgeous treasures.
Most of the shells we found were just at the water’s edge.
Such an amazing assortment. We haven’t found such a variety like this in a while so I felt so shellucky.
I was thrilled… so I took a little video to share with you so you can see how the shells were rolling in. I didn’t pick any up while I was filming so you could try to spot them too. Have fun!
We went back last night but didn’t find this same assortment but I did find something that made me laugh… a broken beat up JUNONIA. Just to see those spots in the sand made my heart is a beat!
Pam, your first photo is stunning! I think it needs to be another one you print and sell.
It’s nice to see such an assortment on the beach, even if it was only one night. I am jealous of the sand dollar. It seems to be a rather common shell, but some how it always eludes me. – Oh well, some day.
And, THANK YOU for the video. It has been a while sine you posted one and it was so good to look at the shells and hear the waves. A great way to start the week. Thanks!!
To the person inquiring about another place to shell, Boca Grande, Fl. They also have a beautiful lighthouse and this time of year it is not crowded on the beach. The area is charming and beautiful.
I go to Manasota Key every winter and Boca Grande is my favorite place shells, mostly olives, whelks and sometimes murex.
So I know what you mean. I painted a watercolor of that beach for a friend of mine who lives in Engelwood and I have a copy of it which always keeps me connected during the summer months when I am not in paradise!
Oh the shark eye is my favorite! I will pick them up as long as the eye and a little spiral is there! Living on the Atlantic side, it’s hard to find them whole :( Can’t wait to be back in Sanibel next summer!
Gorgeous waves and shells. Thanks for sharing!
Gee, thanks Pam for the stroll at the water’s edge. Can’t wait to get back this winter. Looks like we’ll have to get to Bowman’s more often :)
Looks like you found the Sanibel Six! Loved the video, I wanted to reach out and grab the shells as I saw them rolling around. It’s great when you find a wash spot like that.
Thank you for the video!! It was fun to see what was there! I was almost snatching at my computer wanting to grab some of those goodies!!
Loved the video! Next time we are there we will spend more time on Bowman’s. We only got there on our last day. Seeing all those lovely shells made my heart sing. Thanks for all you do to help us live the dream via your blog! I will have to send photos of some of the things I made with the shells we collected with you on the Big Hickory Island shelling tour in January.
Olives, Whelks and Conchs, Oh My! Loved the video…made me want to jump into the video and grab those suckers! Ha!
We just returned from 10 days in Sanibel. I miss it already and I loved your video. I could watch the shells rolling in all day. I too found a Junonia at Bowmans – it’s almost identical to the one you have pictured! Plus, there were tons of shark eyes, a few lace murex and other treasures. Can’t wait to go back…
Almost like being there- almost!
Pam,
Thanks for the video! Needed that break today :)
Peggy
the sharks eye was beautiful as were the other shells especially the lace murex really love them with there special look but they all are nice really love them all because I love shelling –r.g. stein
Beautful — I’ve GOT to get back “out there” – guess I’d kinda gotten discouraged the last few months….. thanks for giving me a kick in the ole’ you-know-what….
I had some difficulty getting to write a comment. I kept trying. Using my nook. Love video
PAUL NEWMAN’S EYE SHARKS EYE was the gorgeous icing on the cake, as I watched “THE LONG HOT SUMMER” recently…. oouuuu!!
Shellotte
Wow! That shark’s eye is a beauty! All good finds. My friend does the turtle watch on Anna Maria Island. Her partner found a large, whole junonia on Saturday while checking the turtle nests. I was able to go with them a few weeks ago and talked to a sheller who had great finds in her bag from earlier in the morning. My friend’s interest in shelling again was ignited.
Just curious Pam. Where on Bowman’s Beach did you find all those shells. You said you walked quite a bit. Did you go to the right or left when you come out onto the beach? Thanks
We went to the right- and we went back last night too. it was still good in the wrack lines not as much in the water like the video.
Thanks so much for the reply. I have been shelling on Sanibel for 20 years or so, and I used to go to Bowman’s back when we first started coming down, but it’s a lot of walking so lately I just go to the Lighthouse area, and Blind Pass. Maybe when we come done next year I will try that area again.
Thanks, Pam. I needed a breather and your video was just what I needed. It instantly calmed me. Thank you!
Pam, the video on the Paul Newman’s shark eye post sounds great, but all I get is a link to utube that doesn’t connect. Am I doing something wrong? usually the links are operational without having to go to u tube. I can’t wait to see this video, it sounds amazing! Thanks!
Thanks for letting me know- so sorry – I’ll work on getting that fixed- the YouTube links are wacky n this new site. Hope to fix it soon!
Pam,
Love Bowman’s but it seems so big and so busy.
We rarely have much luck there. We often find most at Tarpon (Middle to WestGulf), Turner or Blind Pass.
On BOwman’s which way do you go from the parking lot path? South by the homes or far North by the bayou?
Any sweet spots you can share?
His winter the best time for she’ll collecting? I have heard there are a lot more in the winter.
Beautiful! Looking forward to shelling soon. Is one time of year better than others?
I grew up in the area. This is the part that I miss most!
