Beach combing the Bahamas is always such an adventure to explore since there are so many secluded shell strewn beaches surrounded by clear turquoise water… and we just got back from exploring oodles of those islands in The Abacos.
Clark and I were cattin’ around on Talisman V, the same Sunsail catamaran we sailed last year (my post Gone Shelling – Abacos Islans, Bahamas) with our good friends John, Jane (our fearless Captain and fab first mate), Ron and Phyllis. We had a boatload of fun together!
We found some amazing shells and gorgeous drops of colorful SEA GLASS.
…and mini shells galore!
Each of us found so many different types of species and colorful treasures.
There were empty QUEEN CONCHS rolling up on just about every beach. These were on a beautiful beach in Little Harbour.
We flew in to Marsh Harbour then sailed to Great Guana Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Man-O-War Cay, Little Harbour and Hope Town exploring as much as we could in between. We found shells and beach bling on every beach explored so each day was an incredible treat.
Thank you J & J for an awesome trip… with a fun bunch of peeps… finding incredible loot… on a beautiful adventure.
Love the SEA CRADLE in 4th photo!! Are the undersides of the plates aqua?
~*~*~*~*~*~ Shellotte
Shellotte! Yes it is but it is still so sandy on the inside and I’m too afraid to wet it because I’m afraid the whole thing will fall apart. I found 2 of the chitons completely together but the other one isn’t aqua in the inside. :)
So very awesome! It’s (almost) like being there…living through you’re adventures and I’m extra honored each time I see pictures with you wearing the bracelet we made you. All the places that bracelet has been shellacious!!! Biggest Hugs, kj :D
As you can see, I love this bracelet you made me Kathy!!!! I think of you often! You should sell these- the clip is so easy to take on and off. I’m sure someone might want to buy one if you let us know how. Thank you so much for such a fun gift!!! Xo
We did/do sell these, orders come and go but lately they’ve been presents to my fellow beach lovers! I think we need to make you one with the glow in the dark white mixed with sea green, that way to could collect with out a flash light!! Thank you for the awesome adventures! Next yeat I’m going! Cannot wait! kj :D
Do you have a website where you sell them? I’d be interested. Especially in the glow in the dark and sea green, so awesome! :-)
Oh my!! Looks fabulous!! :) Love the sea biscuit, the sea urchin picture and your group pic!!! What fun it looks like ya’ll had! <3
What an awesome display of shells! I especially love the sea fan. Looks like you had a great time………….
I just can’t pick out a favorite, they’re just beautiful. And Pam we all know you only pick-up the empty shells.
Hi Pam , I was looking at your pictures and you have a shell sitting on a green leaf in one picture my husband found a shell just like it in sanibel in August first one we have seen there. Can you help identify it? It is long and narrow. I have a picture but not sure how to send to you.
If you are referring to the oblong shell on the green piece of glass in the sixth picture down, I believe that you are referring to the frond oyster. The shell is one half of a bivalve pair.
Yes , thank you!
Nice post Pam. Glad you found some nice shells and had a good time with shelling friends. It does not get much better than that.
Looks like another great trip and places to add to my travel list. So many beautiful shells!
Oh, your trip looks wonderful. Beautiful places with wonderful friends and great shells as well! Definitely a place I would love to go. Thank you for sharing. Just wondering, do you dock or anchor out at night?
I love your blog. You take beautiful photos.
That Triton….sigh… :)You have the most amazing shell adventures, thank you for bringing us along! Someday I hope you can visit Eleuthera. An island with two very different sides, one wild Atlantic & coral reefs, the other calm Caribbean. The Tarpum Bay area south is maybe the best for shelling and peace and quiet. A new adventure for Pam and her Shelling posse!! :D
Pam, I really enjoyed meeting you today on our shelling cruise. Everyone was so nice. Look forward to coming again next year. Diane
i had so much fun meeting you too Diane! it was a really good trip and i hope to see you on the beach … or next year. :)
We are going to the Abacos in May. Wondering if you find these awesome shells, can you bring them back trhough customs?
When I went to the Abacos I was really hoping for an angular Triton or a helmet shell. We only had one full day and the waves were too big to swim in because of the nor’ eastern storm. Still, we managed to find 6 helmets but no angular tritons
Wow Chris! Which island did you go to find all the helmets?
The shells you found are beautiful! I am planning to go to the Bahamas with my mom this summer, and as a beachcomber and shell lover, I was wondering if you had any suggestions for specific beaches to visit there. I think we’re staying on Paradise Island/Nassau, but I’d love to go island hopping and see other places.
Between the Abacos, cat island, and eleuthera, which would you say is the best and most family friendly for shelling?
