As I hear about the terrible winter storms north of Florida, I feel a wheeee bit embarrassed to be complaining about the chilly weather of 54 degrees here on Sanibel Island that swept through yesterday. So before I get out my big down coat and boots with wool socks to head to the beach, I’m hoping if I post the photos I took earlier in the week from our iLoveShelling trip to Big Hickory (when we were still in bathing suits, shorts and tee shirts), it’ll warm us all up a tad.
There were warm, colorful shells strewn all over the bright sunny beach. ;)
Our group was able to wade in the Gulf Of Mexico without a care in the world.
And find ALPHABET CONES, LACE MUREXES, LETTERED OLIVES and FLORIDA FIGHTING CONCHS.
I met awesome families with rosy sun-kissed cheeks finding buckets of shells.
GAUDY NATICAS, ROSE PETAL TELLINS, ANGEL WINGS, SHARKS EYES and NUTMEGS.
Wow…. and more ALPHABET CONES!
So many shellers with their ALPHIE eyes on!
It was such a pleasure to spend such a gorgeous day hanging out with so many cool shellers.
SEA PEARLS, DRIFTWOOD and WORM SHELLS…. I absolutely loooooove these beach treasures.
JUNONIA Sue (from my last post) and friends were with us!
Thank y’all for coming out and enjoying the day with me.
A day of beach combing always warms the heart…. and hopefully helps give a little warmth even if it’s virtual shelling. Stay safe, y’all!
I’ll let ya know what these high winds from this winter storm washes up on our beaches soon. The waves are entirely too rough right now but the anticipation… always exciting! :)
PS- I’m trying to work out some new dates for the next few months so once I get everything worked out, I’ll post them on the Shelling Trips page HERE. Hopefully soon!
Great pictures of some beautiful shells and families! How’s the shelling today after yesterday’s storm? We were so tempted to drive down from Lakeland because we thought it would be a great time for shells after the storm, but just couldn’t get away. Thanks for such wonderful pictures as always! It helps me feel connected to Sanibel always!
Hey who won the Susick Traveler scoop? Never saw it posted.
Hi Pam! Would you please tell me what brand and type of water sock Clark uses while shelling. I know I have seen him wearing something. There are so many choices online, I am asking you and Clark, the pros, what he uses! Thanks so much!
For Christmas my husband gave me a trip back to Sanibel Island February 10 arriving late that day and departing on the 13th. I wanted to go on one of your shelling excursions was my main reason for coming back. You don’t have them on weekends do you?
I wish I still lived in Florida, we had a beautiful home in colonial Shores fort myers, I LOVED IT THERE BUT MY HUSBAND DID NOT. i watch all the time, trying to get him to back down there and have so much fun collecting shells on the beach- you should see the peices I have made, they are so pretty I DO NOT WANT TO SELL ANY OF THEM, trying to get down there for MARCHCbecause of the shelling festivel, maybe will take our 3 pugs get in the car and just rent a home for a couple of weeks see you soon angela
Oh, yeah, we feel so sorry about your weather. lol. I won’t even mention our temps but I will mention our snow. It started Fri evening. Sat morn we got up to 5-5.5 inches. Then it started snowing again & we ended up with about 6 inches. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot to some but here in South Carolina it is. Our state & counties are not equipped for this. The temps are so low that any melting becomes ice quickly. Our street hasn’t been scraped so the shady areas are snow & ice. Oh how I would love to be there just sitting on the beach surrounded by shells!!!
I am planning a trip to Sanibel in July and wanted to know if Pointe Santo de Sanibel condos are a good place to stay? Is the shelling good around that area?
Thanks for the amazing shelling cruise! My kids just loved it. Memories (and shells!) will last forever.
