Most of the out islands in Southwest Florida are really just big sandbars… big ole sandbars with seashells.
Lots of these big ole sandbars like Big Hickory island are only accessible by boat … so that’s why we took Sight-Sea-R Cruises last week for our iLoveShelling adventure.
We had so many very cool shellers on board!
My favorite families…
Oh so sweet and adorbs! 😍
We had artists gathering for shell projects- good luck with your WORMIE frame!
Gathering for shell decorations for their upcoming wedding- congrats and best wishes y’all!
It was just so dang fun!
Everybody was finding these completely dried itty bitty teenie weenie little SAND DOLLARS way away from any damp sand up on the high wrack line. They must have gotten washed up weeks ago with the high winds then stranded in the hot sun. As we know, Mother Nature has her reasons.
It was like an EASTER egg SAND DIME ;) hunt.
The water was so calm and clear, it was perfect for finding FIGHTING CONCHS, OLIVES, TULIPS and WHELKS.
Shell Shell Horray!
We also got to check out the OSPREY nest with a baby.
Not only do we all get together for these events to be on the warm beach collecting gifts from the sea and witnessing amazing wildlife… we get to learn from each other. It’s such a pleasure to meet smart, interesting, lovely folks who want to share their knowledge as well. Thank you!
There’s always something to learn from the sea.
I am getting excited about my trip in the fall. I have the hotel already booked and I will be calling to book our cruise to go shelling with Pam very soon. I won’t be there till October but I am not going to take any chances on missing out. I can’t wait to meet you, Pam
As always, it was great fun, and over much too soon! Love learning from you and from others on the cruise. I ran into many of the same people through the week on the beach, and we enjoyed talking and comparing notes on our shells. You bring us together and give us wonderful opportunities to become a community–thank you, Pam!
Love the pics, Pam!
My husband and I are traveling to the Bahamas for a shelling trip next month. I purchased the travel shell sifter. Question, if you know, have you ever heard of any problems with that item being in checked luggage?
Thanks!!
I bought the travel shell sifter and packed it in our checked luggage just last month. It was not a problem for us. Even had lots of inquiries on the beach about where to get one! Our only problem is… we need two! Ordering another one for October!

Would someone with mobility issues (cane needed) be able to get off the boat on the May 2 shell cruise? Does anyone know if there is a dock or do you hop off? I would love to celebrate my birthday with the cruise but want my mom to join me.
Yes! Yay There’s a dock to
Board the boat at Captiva cruises and a dock at Cayo Costa as well. You dont have to climb down the ladder anymore to get to the beach on the Captiva cruises shelling cruise. Hope y’all can make it :)
Thanks, Mindy!
Hi Pam! I love reading all your info on shelling and your videos are amazing! We are headed to Ft. Myers in July and I’m wondering if we are going to get a good shelling experience when we come? I’m not sure what the best time of the year is..but we are excited and will be visiting Sanibel Island and the surrounding area!
Have been following your site for a couple of years Pam. We are
booked on the shelling trip May 15th. We are from Sarasota and
can’t wait to meet you and all the shellers!!
